They still arrange marriages in other countries til this day.
I seen how in some places they trade cattle for a girl for marriage.
It is untelling where all arranged marriages have taken place.

Ever check out those regency romance books? Yea all over England I believe, during the victorian era when corsets were first discovered as a figure enhancement part of clothing. I'm not really sure about italy doing the arranged marriages during that time. I mean arranged marriages usually happened between really rich members of society. To either bring two powerful families together or pay off gambling debts the men had. I have read in a few of the fictional regency romance books that people of lower class means could get married to whoever they wanted. Like one of the characters out of my book he came from Italy or france I think, and he married a young girl who was roughly 16 or so at the time that was also from france or italy. But they didn't have very much money or anything. But they still got married. Probably in a smaller ceremony though.

It's up to you to choose and where or where is the most appropriate place for both of you.

I am from Greece and these things still happen (not as much as they used to), especially when issues such as financial assets or social status are involved. Parents choose their childrens' future husband or wife in order to combine their big fortune with the other family's or maintain their good name.
In my opinion the couple should be really stupid to accept to marry someone your parents chose for you and not someone you really love. It's your whole life..
