True. But when you have enough nukes to blow up the world, who cares if someone else has enough to blow it up 20 times over.

Why do you consider yourself to be such an expert?
German Military technology in WW2 was vastly superior to the Russian Military technology, but Russia was still able to beat them.
Your "One Platoon of Abrams M1A2 MBT's are worth at least One Brigade of Russian T-80 MBT or Chinese Type 90 M.B.T's."
your assessment of the Russian T-80 M.B.T. is way out of date as well as the Russians are currently using the T-90 - T-90s range.
Also the Chinese are known to have the following types of M.B.T's:
Type 98 Main Battle Tank ZTZ-98 / WZ-123.
The Type 98 was first introduced to the public during the parade on October 1, 1999, marking the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic China. While initially confused as the Type 96, further study revealed that the 18 tanks on display during the parade were in fact a member of the Type 80 family of Chinese Main Battle Tanks.
The Type 98, also known as the WZ-123 MBT, is based on the Russian T-72 and even features a hull design similar to the Russian tank.
The Type 98 program is believed to have begun sometime in the early 1990s as the Chinese explored design changes to the Type 90-II.
Armed with a 125mm smooth-bore main gun fed by a carousel autoloader the Type 98 weighs roughly fifty tons and is powered by a new 1200-hp diesel engine.
While the hull of the Type 98 resembles the T-72, the turret does not, instead it is "box-like". The turret front is slightly sloped and angled, with the turret sides being nearly vertical, and the turret roof has a slightly domed appearance. The Type 98's turret is larger than those of previous Chinese tanks, and extends forward, creating a gap between the lower edge of the turret and the hull deck.
The main gun's fire control system is fitted with a stabilized independent sight for the commander.
The Type 98 also includes some type of previously unknown active self-defense system. The two components of this active self defense system are mounted on the turret roof. The L.W.R. (Laser Warning Receiver) is mounted behind commander's hatch, and a high-powered laser weapon mounted behind gunner's hatch which is employed against the source of the enemy's laser illumination.
There is speculation that the Type 98's armor is either based on, or is influenced by Russia's T-80U M.B.T. This is based on similarities found in the two tanks, including cavities in the turret's frontal armor which are covered by plates, placed flush and bolted to the turret's roof.
History has recorded the fate of various nations who believed they were technologically superior to there enemies, and the old adage
"Pride comes before a fall" should be remembered young man!!

Well one reason is that China's population is so huge. Even if all the super powers (they should be called super idiots) nuke the world there will still be Chinese running all around the world, but who wants to run around after an all out nuclear fallout?
By the way you did hear the President and how he wants WW III? The scary part is that he said it with a smile. Maybe we won't have elections after all. Blackwater will be at all the election posts and shoot anybody they suspect that is not voting the way they want. Now there is a scary thought.
By the way, people are equal, not sure it matters about irresponsible governments that are taking us to the bridge of extinction, they should be overthrown.
Oh, my God, I am talking Revolution.
Just Imagine, all the people, living for today.
Imagine there are no countries to live and die for, above us only sky.
You might say that I am a dreamer, but I'm not the only one!
I hope some day that you will join us, and the world can live as one!

OK. I just hope that we don't find out the hard way that you are wrong about China.
Jason, I live in Taiwan. If China invaded us, the Peoples Liberation Army would get a bloody nose, but the result of the invasion would be a foregone conclusion--in a matter of days if not hours. It would be like the Nazis invading the Netherlands. Don't kid yourself.
I was over in China a few months back--watching latest-generation MiG's screaming into the airbase at Shantou. That's only a couple of hundred kilometres from Taiwan. I was just a lieutenant in the Canadian army years ago, and the Chief of Defence Staff never asked me for my opinion, but I know what I'm talking about.

As far as I know, the Chinese military is weak. It can't even invade Taiwan let alone beat the US which is 30 years ahead in technology and equipments. The Chinese technology is based on outdated Soviet crap technology from the 1970s. The distinct advantage is only their manpower.

(Excluding all consideration of nukes for this answer.)
Russia is not an issue. We could beat them with our existing force easily.
China is a different problem. M1's win battles, but production capability wins wars. China is on track to have the capability to crank out an Army that we cannot match in about 20-30 years. If things continue, they will be able to do to the US what Reagan did to the Soviets.
Our individual soldier may be better, out tank may be better, but if each of our soldiers faces 100 'pretty good' CCF soldiers and each M1 is faced with 100 'pretty good' CCF tanks, we might be well and truly screwed.

Actually, I haven't run into anyone who knew much about military issues that thought the Russians and Chinese were militarily equal to the US. I would be surprised if someone who thought that was very well informed.

China has America beat in manpower, brainwashing, and hand to hand combat. America kicks butt in the technology field, but to actually win a war you still need to engage the enemy on the ground and as a Sicillian once told me, "never get involved in a land war in Asia"

The scarest guess I've ever heard is:
To make the world believe China is a threat so that some people(country(ies)) can get their way on certain affairs.

Because they're both massive and they're both equipped with export-quality war machines, if not as well budgeted.
Besides, recent experience has shown that you don't need the latest in Western technology to give the Americans a decent fight.
