Because it IS our duty! It's known as "The Great Commission." Jesus said to his disciples, "Go out into ALL the nations, teaching them in My Name." It is not only our obligation but our joy to witness to our faith, and to spread the good news of salvation (a.k.a. "Gospel").
Now.... that being said...
YES... you CAN have your OWN beliefs! If "everytime i turn around poeple are like oh you should be a chrsitian its much more holy" happens to you so much, I suggest you STOP TURNING AROUND!!!! HAHAHA!
I cannot believe how often atheists report their being "approached" by Christians. In all my born days, I can only think of a smattering of times when others have "involuntarily" come up to me and tried to convert me to their beliefs. How does this happen so often to you atheists? Is there some sign stuck on your backs saying, "HEY! I'm an atheist! Try to convert me!" ???
And I, myself, have never approached an atheist to try to convert them. I speak of my faith and my beliefs, but I have NEVER said to someone, "Do you want to be a Christian? Do you want to believe in Jesus?" etc. I have also NEVER heard anyone ELSE in my presence do the same thing to a non-Christian, in any non-religious setting I've ever been in (workplace, movie theatre, whatever!).
You folks must be living some sort to charmed lives if this keeps happening to you that you keep complaining about it so vehemently. I FEEL FOR YOU!!! But I just can't imagine that it happens as much as it seems you say it does.

Even the world understands: "Friends don't let drunk friends drive". Don't you believe in helping people who are in trouble? If you are happy with yourself as you are, just tell them that. You can even quote scripture:

Can't people just keep there beleifs to themselves?? I was at a park for my lunch break today, when this sexy girl came up to me and asked if I was a "good person". I thought I was gonna get a number, but instead she lectured me on why I am going to hell. All I can say is that I pay my taxes, I have a respectable job, I dont have babies with different baby mommas. I am pretty good in my book. Just leave me alone, and dont pull those Vietcong tactics on me.
For the record, I told her I follow Islam...Which is bull....that sparked a different conversation.

I'm not a christian but I think I can tell you why.
The bible says that Jesus told the apostoles to share "the good news" with all the nations. They are just doing what they´re supposed to do, beisdes they really believe that Christ is the only way to God and Heaven, so they want everyone to be "saved".
Next time a Christian talks to you about salvation or tries to"convert" you think that they do it because they are concerned about you, even if you don't care about it. I have known some Christians and it doesn't bother me the fact that they talk about thier beliefs.
On the other hand, there are many atehists that also try to prove that God does not exist and spend time telling why religions are false and how "dumb" it is to believe, so there you go, it's not just them.

If you see someone driving off a cliff, would call it interfering to try and stop them? That is what Christians see everyday and you put them down for wanting to help you. I have people in other religions which does not agree with me because I believe in the whole Bible. I see churches who use parts of verses to make a church. I fear for them but what can I say, "You're wrong!" That will go over like a lead balloon. We will only know the truth when we die.

I can't say for them but from my prespective, it is disrespectful to me as a person. I have my faith which is not Christian. I should be left alone in my faith. I do not try to convert anyone into my faith. I respect everyone too much for that. my faith is my path in life everyone has their own path. there is no "one and only" path to follow in life. besides there is no hell. I died when I was 5 and was sent back. we all go to the same place. the terriable people just have a lot more to learn then the rest of us when they get there but it is the same fantastic place.

I am a Christian but I do not push anyone who is Atheist or Agnostic to become Christian until they are ready to hear HIS WORD. Many believe they are to convert non-believers because of Matthew 28:18-20 which says "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. (Acts 5:42) And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
(Acts 20:20) while I did not hold back from telling YOU any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching YOU publicly and from house to house.

WE don't convert anyone. Only God has the power to change a person's heart. Contrary to popular opinion, it's not a notch on our spiritual belts when someone accepts Christ as their Savior. God gets all the credit for that!
The reason I personally share my faith with others is because I used to BE them, and I want them to experience the same joy, peace, and hope that I now have. That, and Jesus told us to. When someone has impacted your life so profoundly and so positively, it is something you feel compelled to share with others, not keep to yourself - unless you're selfish.
I've never "pushed" my beliefs on anyone. Often, it's the other person who initiates the questions because they sense there's something "different" about me, and they're curious as to what it is. We share all kinds of other things with friends and co-workers... favorite books, music, movies, etc. So, why should I hold back in sharing the one thing that is most important and satisfying to me?
