i believe this assertion is quite true, but can anybody gimme some examples? the more the better.thank you.. : )

I think it can at least tell you how people thought about certain ideas/activities. For example, in seventeenth-century Dutch art many peasants and soldiers are depicted smoking tobacco or with pipes. Those who smoked were looked down upon by the upper class because it produced effects similar to that of alcohol...it clouded one's judgment and affected one's control over their body. Figures stuffing pipes can be interpreted as sexual flirtation. So including these symbols in paintings revealed activities and persons looked down upon by the 17th c. Dutchman.

Yes.... but it is like that story about an infinite number of monkeys typing. One is bound to write a masterpiece.

In other words; how would you be able to tell?

Historically we sure have an idea about the Inca's or the old Egyptians through the art they left behind but if that idea is anything like the truth we have no idea of telling.

It is all about projection.
