Greetings. the step on a land mine and you can't lift your foot or it will go off. Can you think of any reason for them to have continued to make this foolish type of detonator? Most mines of booby traps are made to do damage to you or kill you. Letting you know they are there and then being able to disarm them makes no sense at all. normal way it works is you trip it. either step on it, or your body, usually the foot since it has no eyes, trips it by pulling a wire or putting pressure on a hidden detonation means. it goes off as soon as you trigger it, not after you are releasing the tension of having tripped it. Looks good in hollywood movies to build tension. in war? that would be a foolish thing to do the click and the warning and then the ability to disarm the weapon. Hollywood shows it being disarmed by putting the safety wire back in. and that takes another person to do since you cannot bend in half and work under your own foot. Mines again not hollywood but real, tend to not be designed to kill you. but rather to cripple you, as the bouncing betty mines were that when tripped would shoot up in front of you about 3 feet and then go off with a small explosive change. idea was to casterate you or destroy your legs, tear your belly open, etc. get a lot of screaming and troops have to be used to carry you away for medical care. making them also targets of course.

RE:
You stepped on a landmine detonator, how to escape 'certain death'?
When you stepped on one, you cannot lift your foot right? Otherwise the landmine will explode and blow you to smithereens. Say you have a bag with you with stuff you can use to escape 'certain death', how would you do it?

Depending on the type of mine some have tiny wire prongs on top that detonate instantaneous as the foot catches them, or the pressure plate is designed to detonate as it takes the downward weight.
So the trick will be to take your foot of the pressure plate and replace it with the "bag of stuff" looks easy in the movies but in real life??
I would prefer to tie a rope around my waist, get down as low as possible and get 10+ of my buddy's or a hummer to haul my a s s out of their with a quick yank, hopefully not landing on a second mine.

Most landmine explode when stepped on, sorry you r dead
The Germans had a Shu Mine(excuse spelling) which had prongs above ground. You step on them and when pressure released a small charge blows and throws mine up to about waist height, then the main charge blows, then your r dead
I understand a similar mine was used in Vietnam called Bouncing Betty with same result

Hey Here is my entry, hope you like it: An hour. That's all she has left, to live, to breathe. Her time is immenent but still she fights. As she slumps her back against the cool, grey wall, she slides to the ground; thinking, analysing, calculating. The door is shut. There are no windows. She's alone, but not defeated. The walls are made of dull coloured bricks, the floor is grey and smooth, and various items lurk around the room. This seems as some sort of storage room, soon to be invaded by poisonous gas. She takes her hands away from her face, revealing smooth, fair skin for me to see. I look at her pained blue eyes, pursed, determined full lips and freckles that have been settled around her nose. Fifty-one minutes. Her eyes have become accustomed to the gloom, but still not enough to suffice. She lies down on the floor and awaits her fate. Putting her hand in her pocket, she wraps her fingers around something familiar, and with the recognisition she sits up. She stands, but slowly, tired from shouting and screaming for aid, for help...for justice. Only silence had spoken back. Justice holds no hope, no value in reality. Out of her pocket she pulls a toy, something she'd get out of a Happy Meal. What use does it has? She answers my unspoken question by pressing a button and revealing a light source from the toys mouth. This ounce of hope fuels her and she starts to search, frantically picking up items and throwing those that are no use. Thrity-six minutes. She finds a glass and a small hammer, clutching both items with glee as she runs to the wall. She begins tapping the wall with the hammer, and then holds the glass to the wall and her ear, listening to the sound that recoils. She makes her way across the room until she finds the perfect brick; making a hollow sound, melidious to her ears. Twenty-seven minutes. She runs to the table, using her strength to pull off one of the sturdy legs to hit the brick. It indents, and soon falls out. One brick isn't enough, and the sand in the hourglass continues to fall down. Half the wall breaks down, and sunlight enters the room like a ray of hope. Thirteen minutes left to spare and the girl breaks free. The girl has cheated me, Death. ~ JLT

In the school of infantry we were taught to cut the sole of our boot off and try to keep pressure on the mine while finding a rock or something heavy to replace your foot, or cutting off your boot laces and filling your boot with rocks The likely hood of this working though is about %1. The chance you're actually going to step on a mine and realize it before being blown in two is about as good as trying to catch a bullet with your teeth.

You can't escape it, you have to lift your foot as soon as you touch it, and try to cover your body and head with your limbs...No legs is better than no life.

Can't do it.
When you step on the mine, it doesn't wait for you to lift your foot. It starts a timer. You're gonna blow up in 3 to 7 seconds no matter what you do.

This is why mines are usually rigged with tripwires. Instead of being able to stop them from blowing up from the ground, they are aimed, triggered, and cause casualties.

Most real life mines are less forgiving: you trigger them you are finished. Amputation, and or death. I think that the mines in the movies are set to give you a second chance for the drama.
