Because the universe is heading toward a state of entropy. Where everything is just low level radiation. Eventually all the universe would be in black holes, and cease to exist, God won't be. If the universe always was, then why the big bang theory?

Another possibility is that God is eternal but universes come and go. I find it impossible to imagine that the atoms of which I consist always were. Astrophysics has established to my satisfaction that the current universe began as an explosive event in which protomatter came into existence.

Since time is an aspect of the universe, the universe exists for all time. In that sense, the universe is eternal, even if it's past or future is finite.

Actually we are unsure of what happens to the universe. Some think it will expand on forever, others thinks it will burn out and turn to ice, others think it will collapse eventually. God lives in a dimension that is obviously void of time.

Thats a neat use of Occam’s razer. Now go the whole way - what value is god in the explanation and the system anyway.

And you are eternal too; so, you'll figure it out -- but not anytime soon I expect.
