Are you asking about cefixime? It's sold as Suprax in the US and is a good choice for kidney infections (in infants, all urinary tract infections are presumed to be kidney infections and treated as such).

Manufacturer says it's OK in kids six months and up... manufacturers tend to be VERY conservative in recommending the use of their products in kids so when they make a statement like that, it means they're as confident as they can be that it's OK.

Best wishes to the little one!

This may be a little far fetched but UTI's in children are not supposed to happen...it did to me and FINALLY a doctor figured out that I had Kidney Reflux-(when some urine basically goes backwards back into the bladder) which causes UTI's...my story is unique...I had many tests done when i was about 16 (ultra sounds urin tests ect.) They found out that one of my kidney's was underdeveloped and causing this problem...they removed my kidney when I was 19 and I am completely healthy...usually this procedure is done on children but they caught mine late...Good luck

Get a second opinion if you do not feel comfortable with this course of treatment (quickly though, do not let this kind of thing get a stronger hold on your little one) or ask your local pharmacist to advise you on how often this med is used for babies or even check it out on line or go to the library and look it up. Take care.
