Matthew 24:14-16 (King James Version)
14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
Most scholars translate this phrase “stand in the holy place” to be the temple in Jerusalem, which is why many evangelicals feel that the temple must be rebuilt before the tribulation can begin. The abomination of desolation would be one of the various evil doers described in Revelation (not the Beast, as the Beast is a nation or people).
Daniel 9:27
27 Then he [the prince to come] shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”
If this abomination is standing in the temple before the great tribulation, odds are Israel has already fallen
Revelation 12
1 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2 Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.
3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
The woman in this passage is Israel (the people, not the modern nation), and her child is the Christ.
7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them[a] in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Satan cast down from heaven after the ascension of Christ.
13 Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.
It is interesting that one of the previous respondents refers to prophecy in such a demeaning manner. Please recall that the Jews were dispersed in the diaspora, and were prosecuted for many centuries. When the new nation of Israel was created, many Jews were brought to their new home in American aircraft, “two wings of a great eagle”. Not a lion, or a bear, but an eagle, the national bird of the United States.
This passage was written two thousand years ago.
15 So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
I suspect the flood herein is the Islamic Jihad.
Will Israel be destroyed? Absolutely. The whole world will be. And, Israel will be at least subjugated by the “prince” prior the great tribulation.
Where is the Islamic Jihad focused right now? Israel, or the western technocracies of Europe and the United States? Has the dragon already gone to make war with the ones who “keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”? If this interpretation is correct, the time is close indeed!
And, the United States is the great city Mystery Babylon [ see Revelation 17 ] which is to be burned in one hour. Time to move, don’t you think?

The Bible tells us that there will be 2 major wars against israel in the last days. After these wars Isarel will be very strong having won them miraculously and destroying the religion of Islam by these miracuous wars.
however other nations will still hate Israel and some other Arab nations and such. the anti-christ will show up and offer peace to the middle east. he will outlaw all religion except the one world religion he will allow, and allow Judaism to continue in Israel.
This will be a 7 year treaty between the anti-christ and Isreal.
However shortly afterwards 2-3 years perhaps, the anti-christ will destroy the babylonian one world relgion making everryone worship him. This will also make him go to Jeruslaem into the new bulit temple and make an abomination.
the Israelites will flee probably to that stone city Petra, as many scholars believe, where they will wait in hiding until Jesus returns. Only 1/3 of Israel will survive , but all of them will be saved.

read Daniel. Jesus teaching on prophecy in the gospels. and the epistles of Paul to thessalonica. and the book of revelation.
the Jews will rebuild the Temple. from the first part of the tribulation, whatever measure of freedom they have will last 3.5 years.
then the world leader will renege on the 7 year peace treaty, go into the Temple and declare himself God. the Jews will leave and take shelter in a nearby country wilderness area. and it will be another 3.5 years of worse tribulation.
.
i believe that something will happen to postpone the dividing of the land until sometime during the tribulation.
.
as a nation Israel will emerge scraped and bruised, while other countries will be ruined. because they messed with the troublesome stone.

Anything you want to prove from the Bible can be, by quoting the proper Book, Chapter, and Verses. As an American and as a Jewish Person, I find it hard to believe that you cannot sleep at night wondering about whether the state of Israel will survive. I think that as long as other religions and other countries keep their noses where they belong, Israel and her neighbors will eventually come to understand each other in peace. I believe the United States is wrong by trying to solve the "problem" between the Palestinians and the Israelis by having them give up land. Did you know if Israel did that at some points Israel would be 12 miles wide. True peace will come between the Arabs and the Israelis when it is time to happen and not a moment before. Remember that Israel has had many names in history, including Israel, Palestine, Judeah, and more. So what your "New Testament" says is irrelevant to Israel and Jews alike.

The modern day state of Israel has little in common ... other than apostacy and a distain for Christianity ... with the Israel of old.
Plus ... there's the matter of the Church ... which is the "Body of Christ" and the authentic people of God ... the "New Jerusalem" which will return with Jesus at the end of the age, perfect and unspotted.
Then the whole world will be renovated with holy fire.
Since this is all clearly documented in scripture, why should God be concerned with a small patch of land in the middle east, largely populated by atheists, communists, secular humanists, and anti-christians, that was artificially recreated by political fiat?
Odds are ... EVERYBODY is wrong about the true meaning of the book of revelation ... which proves only that God DOES have a sense of humor, after all.
Worry about the state of your own soul ... not the state of Israel ... and you will be much, much better prepared for whatever comes to pass.

Since the time of Christs death there has no saved or preferred physical nation of people on earth.
Since then a new nation , a spiritual Israel class has replaced the physical Israel.
This means that the state of Israel and indeed all countries and regions of the world have no special protection from God in the upcoming times of distress and destruction at Armageddon.
This will affect peoples and nations worldwide with no one escaping judgment.
All political , false religious and economic systems and the people that support them will be brought to nothing.
What will be preserved are the people ,, individuals that prove by their actions todays and their beliefs that they are indeed following God.
This would mean that they have abandoned pagan and false religious teachings and falsehoods.
Like the immortal soul concept , the trinity and hellfire.
Only by being clean spiritually and acting faithfully can one be accepted and therefore protected by God.
We don't need to be a natural Jew or Israelite in the flesh , but we need to be so in the heart.
So in specific answer to the question , physical Israel as we know it will be destroyed along with all other systems of man and Satan , but the spiritual Israel will endure forever.

You are right. Israel will suffer greatly, but only for a short time. Jesus is going to come back and save them at that time.
Here's some chapter and verse:
1 A day of the LORD is coming when your plunder will be divided among you.
2 I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.
And this is when Jesus comes back ( The Second Coming) :
3 Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake [a] in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.
We know that hasn't happened yet because the mount of Olives splits in two.
Sidebar: This is where the fault line runs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Rift_Valley
Then Jesus does something to the armies that came to fight against Jerusalem:
12 This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day men will be stricken by the LORD with great panic. Each man will seize the hand of another, and they will attack each other.
So this is a study of Zechariah 14. Remember, God keeps all of His promises. He knows what He is doing.
So be watchful!

When the earthquake occurred, & the sun darkened, & the temple curtain was torn apart--at Christ's death...
This signified that God had officially divorced the nation of Israel. Why? Because, although they had been chosen to provide the lineage for His son, & benefitted from His guidance for centuries, they turned their backs on Him repeatedly, even embracing torturous pagan practices. This they did again, when their religious leaders insisted upon His son's --their Messiah's-- torture & death, as a criminal.
Soon thereafter, Jesus' followers were encouraged (through a series of dreams) to begin sharing their message with the Gentiles. This did not mean that no Jews could become Christians, but that they would be accepted only as individuals who each embraced the New Covenant--not as practicing Jews, who do not accept that Christ is God's son.
Remember how Christ spoke to the Jewish religious authorities...? He was speaking his Father's thoughts,
& had nothing positive to say...
*All* organizations & individuals who do not strictly & accurately teach & follow God's principles, & history with humanity --(especially those who claim to represent him, despite the facts)-- will not remain.

Since YHWH has estabilished ISRAEL,,,,no, one or nation can DESTROY them. not then, not now, not in the time to come. Zechariah, is a good book of prophisy to begin with. while searching i see Haggai 2:6 gee there are so many to show that Israel will NOT be destroyed, even from the 83rd Psalm.
