I know when its catholic bashing hour(s) I feel the need to try and have people understand what the church is about, so I do feel a need to defend it. Does anyone else feel like sometimes they have to do that? even atheists, im just courious.

I don't feel the need to defend a church. I do like to put the word of Christ out there. My hope is that seeds will be planted and one day people will come to Christ.

I don’t understand why anyone would ever try to explain their beliefs. Discuss belief, sure, but defend them…NO!

I am the typical non-believer. I have studied religion and the human mind and find no solace in religious dogma or stories. On the other hand, some very good allegory is found in the KJV and the Torah, even the Quran, most of it, however comes from Mesopotamian sages that pre-date all the three major religious dogmas.

I choose not to ascribe to any religion but defend a person’s right to adopt any dogma that pleases them. Defend it? Not at all! Discuss it, whenever you wish.

IMO, .all known religions are essentially indefensible with logic and this applies to all other metaphysics.

I don't feel a need to defend my beliefs, but I *do* find that it is important for people to understand what the Scriptures say.
I once worked with a highly intelligent woman who was a stickler for getting the facts right. If she wasn't sure about a work-related issue, she would stop and research it before proceeding. Yet when discussing spiritual matters, she would respond with "well, I heard that the Bible says . . . ." Amazing! People often depend on hearsay, when their eternal destination and well-being are at stake! In order to make an informed decision, it is imperative that people understand what God's word says.
My beliefs are of secondary importance to God's word. When I discover that, as far as I can determine, I have erred in my understanding of the Bible, I must align my beliefs, my thoughts, and my actions with what God says.

A Muslim here... salam all :)... well yes when someone says something inappropriate or wrong about Islam I feel the need to intervene and defend my religion... but at the same time am explaining to others that what that individual said is not true and I usually give the correct statement...
Some individuals (that I wouldn't probably call Muslims) have made us look bad everywhere... and non-Muslims now look at us all in that image and I usually like to highlight this fact to everyone and always say don't judge Islam by Muslims (well some not all)... there are good and bad people in every faith and in Evey place

I am mormon and just had to defend it a few min ago when someone claimed our beliefs contradicted the Bible.

I dont understand why people cant understand that they have their own interpretations of the Bible just as much as they claim mormons do. They arent doing anything different then mormons are doing yet they think they have some moral highground to proclaim mormons not christians and not believing in the Bible or twisting the Bible.
Why is it not that they are twisting it and mormons have it right? Only because they say they are right. Wow, great defense.

Almost everyone here feels a need to defend their beliefs. And the Catholics are not above doing a little bashing themselves.

I honestly don't. I don't mean to be an a$$ about it, but I am an athiest and I just tend to sit back and what the religious wars rage on. I don't feel the need to defend my position because I know what it is, I believe it, and that's all I personally need

I just feel there is alot of misinformation and ignorance and when I have a few minutes to waste will stop in and try and point people in the right direction if possible. Time at work, with the family, learning etc. all rank up above this in my schedule actually.

I'm not here to defend my beliefs, I'm here to test them. After all, maybe I'm wrong.
