22 years a Jehovah's witness, than God showed me what "New Light" really was, and exposed the falsehoods of the Witness Cult to me. I wrote a letter to disassociate myself.
After years and years of Bible study, and deprogramming, I am now a Christian...
This is a letter that was sent to me by a women, and it sums up what it is like to leave this cult
*********************** When I came to you, I was young and pretty and impressionable, looking for a
relationship with God, my Creator. But through slick words and empty
speeches you convinced me that I was not really a child of God, that my
duty was to the Organization ----- that THEY would tell me what to do and
how to think. Through years of domination and manipulation I began to
accept "the meagre food that was being offered to me, and became willing to
accept it as the true "spiritual" food from the Master, while all the time
feeling the gnawing pains of starvation which wracked at my body. Finally,
I discovered that I had been robbed of my joy, my love, my compassion, and
my mercy, and it was replaced with a legalistic, doctrinal formula which
provided me with fear, guilt, and anxiety to fill my hungry heart --------
and when I said, "I want more than this"...........you slapped me with your
soft little hand, which had now turned into an iron fist of oppression.
Yes, you fooled me all along, and the reason you were so good at your
deception was because you had been fooled too, a long time ago by others who
had taken you captive to their dictatorship, a reign of terror. You
convinced me that the words of men were the words of God because you really
thought it was true. I believed you because you were gentle, soft spoken,
and carried the Bible under your arm.
.....You may not remember me, but I know you very well. I met you a long time
ago when you came to my door with your smiling faces, your neat clothes, and
your soft voices, and a Bible tucked neatly under your arm. You told me
many beautiful stories of a "paradise earth" and a righteous new system
which would be established shortly. You beguiled me.....................I
listened and I let you teach me your form of Christianity.
I loved you. I devoted most of my life to you. I was loyal and obedient,
never realizing that one day I would come to disagree with everything you
had to say. When I first learned of you and the "paradise", little did I
know that I would be trained to believe that in order to get to that
paradise, I would have to walk over the dead bodies of beloved family,
cherished friends, and casual acquaintances, because they didn't want to be
JWs. With your soft, sweet voices, and gentle manner, you convinced me
that everything and everyone who did not agree with you was "evil". I came
to believe that other Churches were bad and of the Devil, and so were their
members. I became convinced that all the governments were wicked, including
my own, and that I was not to support the country in which I lived. I
believed you, I love you,
You told me that you had "freedom", and it was only later that I tried to
escape your brand of "freedom" that I discovered that the iron bars of the
gate had been shut and I was at your mercy because, by this time, you had
already gained control of my mind and my emotions. I cried and begged you
to please let me go, and you said with your firm, roaring voice, "not until
I have stripped you naked," and you did...............oh, yes, you did. You
stripped me of my dignity, my self respect, my honour, and my FAMILY. You
told all my friends and family that I was demonic, evil, an apostate, a
spiritual fornicator, and good for nothing better than total destruction by
your angry God, whom you had tried to pass off as a God of Love. They
believed you, and they still believe you, because their eyes are blinded by
the promise of "paradise" and they cannot see the "hell" that surrounds
them. The ever illusive "paradise" is held out to the gullible like a
carrot in front of the nose of a rabbit and causes them to sacrifice their
family, friends, careers, education, hopes and dreams on the altar of the
Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

I am sure by now that you have observed that the different Christian groups have their own superstitions and customs, and when you question their subscribing to these childlike ideas and promises they usually fill in the blanks with something they pulled out of their own as_. They usually tell you something like "Well that is just God's plan" or "When the time comes new scriptures will be revealed to us" or "God loves me and I know he will protect me". The fact is, faith is based on the power of denial, faith is a rejection of reason. There is so much science that disproves the fairytale of the bible, but when the Christians find one ounce of what could be evidence that their religion is more than a man-made rule book that turns fear into manipulation, they preach all day long about how their religion is better than everything else and that one day they will own the planet because of what they believe in. To them, anyone who does not subscribe to their religion will be left in the gutter.
Every being in the universe knows right from wrong. If the Christians need their bible and their Christ to tell them what to do and what not to do, maybe they should rethink the whole idea of saving themselves.

It's like how people confuse 'God' with 'afterlife' or 'the supernatural'. Since your most likely to come across the main religion being Christianity people have mentally blurred the meaning not really thinking about Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Wiccan, or any other religions. They know that a (Christianity) is a b (religion), but they don't know that c is a b too. Just a comment to atheists, the definition of 'atheism' is that you don't believe in a god of some sort. That doesn't mean you can't believe in afterlife, magic, or the supernatural.

I would not ever associate myself with a religion who's leadership has been shown to be (at least) wrong about very vital things. The more I am reading about these types of sects/cults, the more wary I get of them.
To be able to be led effective leader, you must have a somewhat stable past history of leadership, and like the Word says in Matt 7: 16,20 you shall know them by their fruits ~ so when evaluating something, I always like to see what "fruit" they are bearing... is it confusion, fear, guilt, shame?
I too would love more discussions to see if my views on such practices feel as wrong to other people as they do to me ~ Christian or not.

Any group that continually changes it's doctrine or reveals "new light" is not a true religion. A religion is something that has a defined set of beliefs. JWs change their beliefs every few years.
Jehovah's Witnesses are nothing but false prophets that keep people captive with their cruel disfellowshipping policy. Criticize the Watchtower and you risk being ostracized by your family and friends. It is cruel beyond words and I pity anyone involved in this organization.

No I would not, in my 25 years of bing one of Jehovah's Withnesses, and before I became one, I have seen many many attempts to discredit Jehovah's Witnesses with many lies and with wrong teachings believed for centuries, that have been mistakenly held for that long without the churches admitting they were wrong, the Watchtower Organization humbly admits that they made mistakes in the way they thought in the past, and I have not seen any other church or organization that truly knows or teaches Bible truth as they do yet they get ridiculed and called and accused of all sorts of things, and I will say one more thing Jesus whem he was here on earth was made fun of, called many things including blaspemer, and false prophet This is why in (John15:20,21)he says the following:"20Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.'[a] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.
21They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me.
And another thing I feel more secure with people who admit they were wrong rather than those who will stick to their opinion, nomatter what facts are brought out, which contradict that opinion, the latter certainly are not concerned with what is truth, are they? Are you?(ok, so you read the things you state, but did you understand it all the way it's meant to be understood?
