I have friends coming in for the weekend, we are foodies and bar people. Looking for hot spots in the Cherry Creek, Larimer Square area. Our hotel is in Cherry Creek.

We plan to spend a day at each. . .including the 16th street mall area.

I've heard about the Cherry Cricket. . .what else to check out?
Thanks for your input!

Sorry I should have specified. We are all from Vegas and have had most of the chain stuff. We are looking for some different or unique local places.

Thanks for the input!

Tante Louise closed down many years ago, sooo, that's probably not going to work.

OK, do you want a scene like to get drunk and hook up, or do you want delicious food?

Cherry Creek scene:
Hapa Sushi, and the sushi isnt bad but it's definitely a see and be seen kind of place.

The Cherry Cricket has amazing burgers, it's also kind of a hipster hang out. It's not where the beautiful people hang out.

Cherry Creek amazing food:
Mirepoix in the J.W Marriott is one of the nicest, and best restaurants in Denver. The menu is seasonal and the ingredients are really ingenious.

Sushi Den is the best Sushi restaurant in the Midwest, and maybe even in the country. It's in the Washington Park area, and is a short drive from the Cherry Creek area. Not only is it a seen and be seen kind of place, but the Sushi is outstanding.

Larimer Square:

There are tons of bars and clubs around the Larimer square area, ask around, there could be over 20.

As far as restaurants for a foodie, downtown is kind of lame.

Lime is an upscale Mexican restaurant which is actually in larimer square.

Riojas is a one block walk from Larimer square and offers continental cuisine, it's pretty good.

If you can drive, Frasca in Boulder is one of the top 10 restaurants in the country. Reservations will be required, but it's definitely a scene, and it will be worth the drive (About 30-40 minutes from downtown).

Cherry Cricket is hands down my favorite place in Cherry Creek, though you might also try Elway's just down the street. As the name suggests its owned by John Elway and he makes an appearance there from time to time. The food and atmosphere are excellent though probably a bit more expensive than they deserve. Its definitely a hip trendy place, make reservations or you won't get in; Even with reservations we ended up waiting nearly 30 minutes last time I was there.

In the Larimer Square area I love Rioja, that's actually where I proposed to my wife. The food is great and its got a lively atmosphere. Website here http://www.riojadenver.com/

Try the Cheesecake factory by the 16th street mall. The one down there is so amazing! And it looks pretty high class, you'll impress your friends.

For elegant (and expensive) you can try Tante Louise on Colfax Avenue east of downtown.
