Are you grieving or quenching the person of the Holy Spirit when you deny the truth of God's word and believe traditions that are in opposition to Scripture.
The Spirit’s presence within us enables us to understand and interpret the Word. Jesus told His disciples “when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). He reveals to our minds the whole counsel of God as it relates to worship, doctrine, and Christian living. He is the ultimate guide, going before, leading the way, removing obstructions, opening the understanding, and making all things plain and clear.

Katrina "Dear" Apostolistic tradition is not Biblical. It "is" another tradition. You need to study what the Bible says about this.
BTW I was Greek Orthodox until I started studying the Bible. Then the Holy Spirit revealed the truth to me.
Respectfully
Kait.

No, a Spirit filled Christian cannot "believe" man made traditions. These people walk in disobedience because of peer pressure, and become men pleasers rather than pleasers of God. Putting God second in their lives and grieving the Holy Spirit by whom they were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30

Great question and narrative. I too was trapped in the traditions of man at one time. It is wonderful to be free.

One last standard that I will discuss here, is one method that some people claim as equal to the Bible or even higher: tradition. Here is what Jesus said about traditions of religious people:

Mark 7: Geneva Bible
13 Making the word of God of none authority, by your tradition which ye have ordained: and ye do many such like things.

What He is saying is, that traditions nullify the Word of God. Traditions will water down the Bible, make it less potent. Jesus turned water into wine, and some religious people want to take God's Word and water it down to zero potency. Paul spoke of these folks when he said:

2 Timothy 3:5: Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Traditions can be okay with balance, but don't let any tradition become a standard. If you find a method to reach God which is based upon tradition but is not scriptural you cannot trust it's from God. I go into greater detail why tradition cannot be the greatest method of finding God, nor even a reliable source:

Unless the tradition is Biblical, do not follow it for any dogmatic absolute doctrine. If it is biblical, then do not become legalistic. The following is a Biblical example of tradition. In some churches women are required to wear a head covering, yet the very texts about head coverings say's this:

1 Cor:11:16: But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

We live not by law but in liberty in Christ. Be careful though, don't let your liberty (or legalism) cause you or someone else to fall.

Only until the Holy Spirit reveals the Bible truth. It is important to follow God's Word over man made traditions and religion.

I was baptized as a kid and I accepted a long long time that children cannot go to heaven if they are not baptized. How crazy is that? I got baptized again as an adult, and I no longer follow any particular denomination, only God. I worship God where ever they teach biblical truth of God.

Kait, I agree with you and wanted to add, that while some Traditions are not going to grieve anyone far less the Holy Spirit,
We as Christians, have to be able to pray, and to pray for Wisdom and Discernment.
And to know and Obey The Voice of God.

Edit; gepimu, maybe it was a joke, pls excuse this comment if it was;
Do Not Fear Man, but rather God.
R&S, if you are genuin, is not a popularity contest, so if God is laying something on your heart that will make you unpopular, etc, do His will, not mans.*
I often go against the grain of the question/er, as I am not here for my 10 points (though always rejoice when I recieve one!) but I am here to tell the Truth as the Holy Spirit would guide me as hoping you are too.

No Kait. A spirit filled Christian will not accept or embrace man made traditions over and above the word of God.

I strongly agree with you when you clearly stated "The spirit's presence within us enable us to understand and interpret the word. He will guide you into all truth"(John 16:13).

May we uphold the word of truth in our lives. May we be true to the word of God. May we stand for truth even if we must stand alone. May we rightly divide the word of truth. May we recognize that ultimately that Jesus is the truth. Without him we are lost. (Romans 6:23; 10:9).

Have faith dear friends in God.

It is lower Heaven if protestants don't like purgatory: 1 Corin 3:15 If the work is burned, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire. Save only thru cleansing fire. Matthew 12:32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Sins are forgiven in the age to come: even idle words are cleansed in lower heaven...

When people understand that many of the things their churches follow are based on man made traditions, they should abandon them. I would make a list of them here if I knew it would not upset people and make them give me thumbs down...lol.
As a spirit filled Christian begins to explore Truth, I believe that if they are willing to follow the Holy Spirit, they will eventually follow the Truth they discover instead of the traditions.

Traditions are hard to overcome, especially if they are connected to our childhood, if they are harmless traditions that do not grieve God then no big deal. However, if these human traditions grieve the heart of God then it is time to choose, are we of the customs, traditions and culture of man or of Christ? We can not be both.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the spirit you're talking about is not the holy spirit, because Jesus (PBUH) himself said "Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you"... yet we all know from the bible itself that the holy spirit was among mankind/prophets many times before Jesus (PBUH) said what he said... There is a condition there that you can't deny...
Plus if you read the Greek scriptures the original word used there was not ghost... this is the English translation only...

instead start adopting the possibility (well it's a fact) that Jesus (PBUH) meant the coming of prophet Mohammed (PBUH) ;)

I agree with Millie, Kait. Traditions CAN grieve the Lord. I believe one such tradition is praying to saints and to Mary, rather than Jesus. It surprises me that there are so many who do this, yet believe they are pleasing God!

God bless you!
