My shepherd mix 10 months old is a sweet gentle wonderful family pet and a very alert watch dog. She sleeps with me on my bed. When either of my daughters, who are 21 and 16, lay on the couch next to me or I give them a hug, my dog tries to push in between us, trying to climb into my lab to dislodge them. She also will hold their wrist in her mouth to try to pull them off me. It looks like play and she is wagging her tail and having fun? So is it play, jealousy or what?

She is showing her dominance over you and your daughters. I would discourage this behavior as it can progress to something more aggressive. First of all, she sees herself as Alpha, which is bad. You need to correct her everytime she does this. Make her leave the bed and dont let her come back up. Ignore her and only pay attention when she has COMPLETELY relaxed and stopped demanding to be let back up. If you have to, make her leave the room. She has to understand that she is not the boss and you decide who is allowed to get up on the bed. Or anywhere else for that matter. You need to make ALL of her decisions for her, even to the point where she cannot go in or out of a door without your permission, (and never ahead of you!) when she can eat, etc. It confuses a dog when they dont understand their place in the pack, and she is already 10 months old. You have some work cut out for you, but its not too late. Good luck.

Answers4u got it exactly right. It is never a good idea to attach human behavior to animals. Dogs are pack animals, and someone has to be Top Dog in the house. You will have a happier dog and enjoy her more if you learn to establish yourself as the leader. Obedience training is the best way to do this. All dogs and their owners should go through it.
