NO CHRISTIAN BS ANSWERS!

Ok, I wear a pentacle necklace and every person I walk up to always grabs my necklace and asks "Why do you wear a pentacle" or "what's that star thing mean".
I usually reply with "Because I want to" "It's a symbol of my religion"

I want to give them a better explanation, but I don't want to go on long talking to Ignorant people.

So, could some one please give me a short answer to this question

Ignorant: lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified

so yes they are ignorant, but I'm not saying they're stupid or idiotic because they don't know what it is.

You could just simply say because I think it looks cool.

But then you would do nothing to help your fellow pagans or educate others to your religion.

I know you must get tired of answersing the questions but by answering them you help the community by spreading understanding of our ways.

Say its a symbol of my religon and if they ask more then say its a very long explaination that you dont have time for right now and walk away. Or do like I do...say, "look it up here" hand them a card with a web site on it. If they are truly curious they will visit the site. If not they will toss the card.

on the card is http://www.brigids-haven.com/bos/beginner/beginner.html

Or you can find a site that discuss just the pentacle and leave it at that. I have that on the other side of my card.

Blessings,
Aviana

It stands for the five elements of the earth. (I know that's not entirely accurate, but it's short enough to be all you say and just difficult enough to understand that the really stupid ones will probably leave you alone.)

Or you could just grab their necklace (or earrings, or shirt collar, etc.) and ask, "Why do you wear a ..."

When they give you an answer, say, "Oh. That's so interesting (or something equally sarcastic), then walk away."

I'd probably do the second...

;)

Do you know how the pentacle started?

It started in ancient times when people would begin to track the planets. Venus in particular was bright, and they made maps of it's path.

And that's just a beginning of the explanation.

Here's more. This is all over the internet, though my pastor was the first to bring it to my attention.

Here's the site I went to tonight.

Not bad for a Christian, eh?

The star represents the 5 elements Spirit. Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The circle represent unity and protection. I don't wear my penticle necklace anymore i used to wear it all the time but now i have a Goddess pendent. Wearin my penticle always made me feel protected and intune with nature, my Goddess pendent makes me feel the same way.

If they're nice aboug it, I would explain that it's the same reason a Christian wears a cross, etc.

If they're rude about it, I'd ask them why they wore (insert item here) and walk away.

It's a symbol of perfection and health. Refer to Da vinci's man.

It emphasizes the interconnectivity of all of the elements. The direct and indirect relation of one element to the other. I believe what your already saying is enough. People are quick to judge something they don't understand.

You seem to have the right idea... "well why do some people wear crosses? It's my religion's symbol".
