Hmm, Some chritstians throw out more spite than most atheists on Y!A. We are accused of having a religion, an agenda, and being satanists. So lighten up on the poor me attitude and just let anyone being mean just roll off your skin.
To answer your question, I was a christian for around 35 years, my dad was a pastor and I attended an ACE high school. I have always been interested in many things including archeology, quantum physics, and creationism. About 5 years ago, I started to research Biblical archeology looking for proof of various Biblical events. I was suprised at the lack of it and the extremely poor presentation of any reasoning. I also on a whim started to look into several of my favorite creationis claims, only to find out that they were a hoax. Meanwhile I was learning a lot about evolution and man's history, stretching back to forming religions 35000 years ago.
Sorry for the long story, but essentially after a lot of research, there was no other conclusion than creationists have no clue about science, are brainwashed or are out and out liers. ID is exactly what christians claim evolution to be, an unsupported hypothesis. Given this, that the bible has no proof or evidence, and that there is no evidence for god, I became an atheist.

Lots of reasons, some more intellectual than others.
Here's a few fundamental reasons:
1) There are thousands of religions, and they all look the same. There are different details but the basic idea is "let's all worship something we have never seen, tasted, touched or smelled."
2) All the holy books are junk. Is that supposed to be God-inspired text? Really? Really?! Come on. What about a specific prophecy or fundamental insight. Haley's comet will be back in 2061 -- I just outdid all the prophecies in the Bible on being specific. What about riveting stories or moral edicts that stand the test of time? Why all the geneologies? Why the ridiculousness of the Law of Jealousies? Again, is this really the work of the same god who invented the beauty of E=mc squared, or the incredible vastness of the universe? I doubt it.
3) Why does religion spread like language and culture, instead of being revealed simultaneously in different places? What about all the Native Americans that died between 30 AD and when the Spanish Conquistadors came? Did they not deserve the message of Christ? It would be pretty amazing if, upon crossing the ocean, the Conquistadors came upon a land already worshiping Jesus. That would be a STRONG testament to godly revelation. Instead, they had to kill off everyone. That sucks.
4) "God of the Gaps" (look it up, this is a HUGE reason)
That's a few of the major ones. Similar religions, bad books, very non-supernatural spreading and God being synonymous with "Unknown."
Thanks for the question!

Do Creationists have no longer something greater advantageous to do of their lives than take a seat right here on Yahoo! solutions in the religion section and bash all varieties that don't compliment God? I advise, for each atheist answer or question you get, there are a minimum of 10 Creationist solutions... you spot what I did there?

I am an atheist because there is no proof, no logical explanation of the existence or even the possibility of a "god".
I was Christian until I was around 13, I started to become atheist after I started to read and examine the Bible without just blindly agreeing with it.
It was after realizing how contradictive and fallible the Bible was that It stuck me that there was absolutely no evidence that this "god" is real, and that even it's existence was an absurd idea.
That's the most civil answer I could give.

lack of evidence for religion
evidence suggesting that religion is man-made
an understanding of hypnosis, mass hysteria, and the placebo effect
the fact that the religious (particularly monotheists) are shown to be vastly more likely to hurt or kill for their religion than the non-religious for their lack of it.
because there are so many contrary religions
because religious texts tend to be contradicting towards themselves
because the religious tend to contradict eachother
because rush limbaugh is religious
"facts" presented by religion have been disproven (i.e. disease is from satan, the earth is flat/a turtle)
prayer has been shown to work the same way as the placebo effect. namely, if you don't think it will work or don't know you're recieving it then it won't work.
because einstein (if you pay attention to full sentences) was an atheist

What unbelief? The belief that there is no God? No evidence to prove otherwise. Plus, the inconsistency of a God that is omnipotent and loving with the stories of His condoning genocide and slavery in the Bible causes me to doubt the validity of His existence.
I do have many beliefs, the belief in God just doesn't happen to be one of them.

Because none of the religions I've seen fit.
Afterlife, and a god who sees who's been naughty & nice just seems a little..... out there.
Also i don't see a big distinction, between my life, and the life of a dolphin, why would a god create all this life, but only reward/speak to a very small minority of it.
And since I've never seen a god or any evidence for him, it just seems highly unlikely.

You are being mean by not using the search feature.
What makes you stick to your belief in the face of insurmountable evidence? Because there is no evidence for belief.

Hello dear.
I am an atheist because there is no reason to believe. There is no reason to believe because there is no evidence to support the existence of any god/s.
I wasn't mean.

What makes you stick to your belief? Its just the same. Everyone has their own reasons for sticking to a belief or non-belief.
