Im not going to hire a DJ for my reception or any music for the wedding, Im making up some CD's or using an ipod. I just wanted to know how loud are the ipod speakers, would they be loud enough for a reception or do ipods plug into your normal stereo?

Not at all. What we did--

We went to Sam Ash and bought a dj sound system. It came with the mic, several speakers, turntable, etc. It was somewhere between 100 and 200 dollars and now for any parties we have the best speakers. Then rent a subwoofer in order to get it the sound projected out through the area.

Also, right around Christmas check out Tiger Direct
www.tigerdirect.com
for i-pod. I know there are dj quality speakers on there usually.

But your normal stereo, when you turn up the volume that loud you will lose clarity of the sound. Unless you are just looking for some background music. Consider looking for someone new in the dj business. They usually will be cheaper and won't turn it into The DJ Show. Ours just did the announcing of us as we came in, and announced when we were cake cutting, etc. He was just a couple hundred.

dj's suck!
you will need a fairly big speaker set up for the reception though. Do you have any friends in a band that would let you use their speaker setup? I you can get the proper speakers you can find a way to plug the ipod in.

might I suggest a small good band. we had a 3 piece that featured keyboard , acoustic guitar, and bongo's. sounds weird but a good musician can probably accomodate your musical taste mostly. My guy was a friend who did Santana, Neil Diamond, and a plethera of others that had the joint dancin'.

Even if you don't want to hire a DJ you should look into hiring a wedding. You don't want to be fussing with the music all night! You should be able to enjoy your wedding, not worrying about the proper songs to play at the right noise level for the right dances, etc.

Good luck :)
