Ive got a 1999 ram 1500 quad cab with a 5.2l 318 engine. I normaly run regular unleaded fuel, I've installed a K&N air filter, quaker state synthetic oil, double platumin autolite plugs, and the napa belden silcone wires, I've also enlarged the tires to LT265-75r16 using the factory rims. on the highway i get on average (with the a/c OFF) about 13 to 14 mpg. If I turn ON the A/C, forget it, it drinks fuel like a can of beer! what else can i do to get better mileage?

The best fuel mileage will be with everything factory. And go with the original size tires.

Io you know about the on board computer. You need to go to Auto Zone and buy the manual that goes with your truck. Make sure it's the one that has the trouble shooting section and any of them will have the codes for the computer. Some other stores have them also.
if you have the codes here is how it works. Turn the ignition off, then turn it to accessory, then off, then on to accessory, then off then on (three times jor up to five) then leave on . Look at the "check engine light". It will start to blink and you may have to run the test a couple of time. Anyway the thing will blink once, then skip, then blink say two times in a row. This means 12, it may then blink twice and then five times (that's 25 or oxygen sensor), then if it blinks five times and then five times or code 55 means the test is finished.
If it's the 02 sensor, you'll need a $25 tool for that and is behind the tranny. Hope this helps, if you already know sorry it didn't help. Take care.

It been my experience that if you replace the plugs with those fancy, ones this particular vehicle occasionally runs worse. Change back to the manufacture recommended plugs and you will see a difference.
