This is only until I can get to a dentist. I have had this throbbing toothache for about a week now and I've been taking aleve. At first, the aleve was helping but now it is not doing much. I have also heard bad things about aleve, so I want to lay of of that. I tried orajel, but that only made it worst. What do you guys truly recommend.

It could be either, but if it hit all of a sudden, it might just be a cavity that is down to the nerve a bit. I get that, and the dentist said it's just a cavity that needs filled. When my aunt needed a root canal, it was a constant throbbing for five minutes or more.

Don't know how you can put up with a toothache for a week! Although you have probably had it seen to by now - placing a clove by the offending tooth should give relief. - or you could try clove oil.

oil of clove (eugenol) won't cut it. Take 4 tablets of advil every 6 to 8 hours AND 2 extra strength Tylenol every 4 to 6 hours

TAKE 3-4 ADVIL (IBUPROFEN) EVERY 4-6 HOURS.
ALEVE (NAPROXEN SODIUM) IS 1 PILL EVERY 12 HOURS. THIS WOULD HELP SOME BUT NOT AS MUCH AS ADVIL.
ORAJEL IS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY FOR THIS TYPE OF DENTAL PAIN. IT ONLY WORKS FOR MUCOUS TISSUE INJURIES LIKE SCRAPES, ETC.
GOOD LUCK W/THE DENTAL APPT.
