I am planning a neighborhood watch for my community.
What are some ways to go about this? I want to make it a very successful neighborhood watch.

To what extent should the police be involved? My community has 400 residents. What ways should I go about getting interest in the community?

To what extent should residents be involved? Should we have leaders or a neighborhood watch committee or block captains?

Police officers, if you have any experience in setting up a program such as this please help.

Likewise, if anyone else lives in a community with a neighborhood watch, please share your ideas.

Thanks to all.

Why don't you contact the Guardian Angels for information on setting up your neighborhood watch. They can e-mail you information, and if they have a chapter in your neighborhood they can help out personally.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH 400 RESIDENTS? ALL DOWNTOWN APARTMENT COMPLEXES?

CERTAINLY NOT ONE FAMILY HOUSING OR ELSE YOUR TURF EXCEEDS THE LIMITS OF WATCH.

POLICE HAVE A PERSON WHO CAN ASSIST IN DEVELOPING THE WATCH PROGRAM.

MANY CITIES HAVE OLD RADIOS AND CITIZENS CAN CALL EACH OTHER AND POLICE CAN BE CALLED OR ALERTED TO SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY.

WE HAVE A CLOSED COMMUNITY 14 HOUSES ON A DEAD END ROAD. IN AND OUT SAME WAY. SIGN READS IF YOU CAN READ THIS (BLOCK WATCH) THEN YOU ARE ON CAMERA--HAVE A NICE DAY. HAVE A CAMERA WITH VIDEO LIKE STORES. ACTIVATED BY MOTION. SAW A 13 POINT BUCK LAST YEAR.

http://www.usaonwatch.org is where to go. Your local sheriff's dept will help set it up. Good luck and good for you.
