Lately i feel like my brother has been a total dick to me. As weird as it may sound, its mainly because i like working out and take pride in how well i can box and cardio etc. but my brother being 29 while i am 17 is really starting to brag about how well he is doing, like he is doing a lot better in boxing n stuff than i am, and that got me down enough, but now he started gloating about it. This has really gotten me down cuz its really all i can think of right now, and the day after tommorow im supposed to work out with him but i dont kno what im gonna do, im really upset with him...me and him always had a close relationship, which is hard to have with an older brother at my age especially, and now this is starting to really annoy me and i can see it making us drift away. Any thought on what i should do would be greatly appreciated

i know how you feel. i am 16 with a twin brother and sometimes i swear he isn't the same person i used to know. your brother is probably just competitive with you right now. He may feel intimidated that you have become a great boxer and that was his hobby and he was used to being the best at it. i think you hurt his ego, while he is wrong for being jealous and cranky , you could boost his confidence by complimenting him on his skills and ask his advice on stuff even if you dont need it. hope this helps.

A Double male pride thing going on!

There is always a competition between brothers. Your brother does not want his baby brother to do better than him at things like this. It is a pride thing. Another thing that might be going on is that your brother is closing in on 30, this kind of does something to a person! It makes a person realize that they need to work extra hard at this age to do the same things that they use to do easily.
Your working out is more work for your brother now.. Let him gloat. I do not know if you two joke with each other, if you do, then you can tell him,, Hey not bad for your age,,, If you do not joke around, then don't say that LOL

When you are 29 and try to do what you do now, you will realize how much work it takes to accomplish the exact same activity.

Did you tell him you think he's a d***? Just come straight our with it! You've been close so he'll probably listen to you. Being direct with people (not nasty or hurtful) is the best way to be understood. "Hey, Joe, I think you're a total d*** because . . . . go work out without me 'cause I can't stand you right now."

Or could be your just making too much of what he said on one or two occassions and should just let it go. Don't dwell on what he said. Think about something, anything else, maybe even the things you like about him. Remember, when he's 60, you'll only be 50ish and will be able to beat him in most physical stuff (if you continue to work out.)

Two totally different answers, pick the one you like the best. It's tough being 17.

Don't work out with him and tell him why. or..don't allow yourself to become victim of your own thinking. Maybe he is just proud of what he is doing etc. and doesn't mean anything negative toward you. Be your own man. I have an older brother who basically has ignored me all my life and I have learned to let him go. We are two different people. It's okay. You seem to like your brother and are lucky to have one...hang in there, be honest with him about your feelings and see what happens.

Well... if he is 29 and still living with his parents, then he is a bum and a loser.

It really sounds like he is psyching you. Trying to always be "the best" even if it means trying to do a mental number on you. Putting you down to build himself up. That makes him a very sad case. Low self-esteem.

Find other people to work out with.

Don't take things so seriously... Remember, you're brothers... Brothers like to tease each other and push each other buttons occasionally... Be proud of your brother; not envious or jealous...Look how much younger you are than he is... Don't you think he ever feels insecure? Just be buddies; not rivals...
