I've said it before but Carl Sagan's 'The Demon-Haunted World' has got to be up there. 'Cosmos' was great, too but the demon-haunted world is like a foundation course in rational thought, and I really think most people in the world would benefit from reading it and thinking about it.

My First Two Thousand Years
By Viereck and Eldridge
The hero of this remarkable novel is very different from the Wandering Jew of the popular legend. Here he is shown more as a symbol of Man than as a symbol of his own race. Linked to him through ages are Princess Salome, the eternal mother, and the ape-man, Kotikokura, the eternal friend, while woven into the narrative are not a few of the famous and in-famous of history :Pilate, Nero, Attila, Charlemagne, Gillies de Retz, Rothschild, Spinoza, Einstein, Bernard Shaw, Lenin, Mussolini and many others.
History religion, sex, rejuvenation, occultism, reincarnation are shown in a new light, and through these pages echos the voice of modern disillusionment in the ceaseless search of an ideal, that perfect being, combining the spiritual qualities of both man and woman.

A book by Khushwant Singh, “The Train to Pakistan”, based on actual events around 1947.
You will come to know as to how low, in the name of religion, the so-called religious activist can fall to, resulting in the killing of more than 1 million innocent people. A political aspect is there too, but religion was the main culprit.
And about me---- frankly I am a believer but not in traditional sense.
