In a legal arena you would need a college level degree first. Exposure to the legal environment is highly favorable so you might want to start as a paralegal or something that gets your foot in the door. Since Spanish is spoken widely in the US, there's a lot of competition so one needs to distinguish themselves pretty well. You might think of volunteering as a translator at community non-profit charities/organizations first. References of these types will take you far.

You can be freelance, or in the case of Spanish translators in major US cities, full time salaried. Salaried workers can be anywhere from $30-100k depending on your experience. Note that being a succesful translator requires one to work odd and often long hours. You are often on-call too, which means you are required to respond to professional inquiries at any hour of the day or night.

Usually that is a freelance job and you get paid anywhere from $300 to $500 a day.
