so, am an international student here in the states, on a very strict student budget.. life is way more expensive than i thought here! and the fees are paying i just didn't expect them, anyways, that leaves me starving some days :) seriously!

i end up having lots of coffee, some chocolate and junk food from the vending machines.. was ok at the beginning but eventually it makes me damn sick. the thing is, is there any really afordable healthy food i can get and in relatively enough quanitites for a week, say? or what dietry advice can you give me? i got some cereal, milk, and bread today.. and some JUNK food.. but i feel such stuff make me just gain wait, get lots of spots and acne, and simply turn my stomach upside and down. advice?

i haven't been here long enough yet to get to know all about food. i can eat anything.. except pork.

Try eating/buying more fresh or frozen veggies...they aren't expensive. Buying the ones that are on sale or in season one week works wonders. They tend to rotate the sales on the fresh veggies too...so if you just buy the ones that are on sale that week and wait for the other ones you want to go on sale saves alot. Same applies for the fruits. Buying frozen veggies saves alot too. If you buy a mixed bag(without any seasoning) you can pick out certain veggies you may need out for a recipe or something...they tend to cost less but you get more out of them if you use them that way. Canned veggies are a godsend too for us who are tight on money. If you buy the low sodium cans and add sea salt to taste then they become more heathier. The salt is what makes them bad. I've got nothing on the meats...that is not my area..sorry.

You also have to prepare meals ahead of time. This will do wonders. If you store them..or freeze them in regular portions in individual storage containers then you can take the right amount out the the frige and not have to bother with dethawing the whole thing...and they also save lots of time. When in a hurry you can just grab one and know it's the right amount. That saves time and money in the long run.
Buy some premade..or make your own snacks...like granola bars...then you can have a pretty filling snack when you need it and not have to spend money on junk that doesnt fill you up anyway. The main thing is to think ahead. Plan your meals out..at least somewhat...and that will help you out the most if you do that.

I'm a college student, so I understand you. Today for lunch I had a bag of Cheetos! Not good.
I've found that oatmeal is cheap! Occasionally I splurge and buy some fruit and veggies at the store. Look around campus, there are some good vegetarian options that are a lot healthier than their meat counterparts, it's good for your complexion too. Also, salads are good options. If a Subway is on your campus, it's good for you, tasty, and cheap too!

consider a garden, many communitites and universities have garden share programs. try to find one. eat plant foods. like apple (whole) oranges (whole) whatever's in season. potatoes. get fresh things at the grocery store- bananas. nothing in a package. eat what is cheap/in season. don't use vending machines. take an apple and a green pepper with you and eat those. make a big batch of brown rice and eat a little each day. brown rice is very cheap. get dry beans and cook them then divide in to small meals. very cheap.
you can eat on about $2 or $3 a day if you eat whole, fresh food.
