Is there something wrong with him? He has never purred before, ever. he is 5 years old and he never purred even when he was a kitten.

i don't think he has a vocal chord problem because he meows constantly.
and i don't think he is unhappy because he is always playing and that is one of the signs that a cat is comfortable in its environment...
i always thought it was weird that he never purred but i guess it's not really that uncommon after all.

Cats learn to purr. Perhaps his mom was a non-purring cat. Its not uncommon or something to be worried about.

maybe his purr is too soft to be heard ..... I found that when I hold mine to/on my shoulders I can not only hear but also feel the vibes of her purring too. Mine loves to be cuddled and she purrs until I put her back on the floor again

My kitty Patchs purrs really soft maybe your cat does too. If he vibrates then he is purring.

Some just don't purr. Just like some never really meow. It just that cat / type of cat. Nothing abnormal.

my cat is 2 and she only purrs right before we go to bed. during the day i could be petting her but i get nothing. i think some cats just dont purr.

Not all cats purr. I have a cat that doesn't and then one that purrs so loud that its annoying.
