Interesting scenario. You don't need a handgun, just a bigger pair of scissors.

Any handgun that feels comfortable in your hand that you can shoot well that is of a caliber larger than a 32acp. For your home defense a 18inch or 20inch 12 guage shotgun is best. For concealed carry regardless of the caliber get a handgun that you will actually carry that isn't too heavy or bulky to tote around. A "J" frame smith or Taurus mdl 85 can be comfortably kept in your front pocket without messing with a holster.

i love each and everything about the Ruger except the set off. I placed 50 rounds via one, it really is by technique of no skill exhaustive testing, yet might want to no longer get something like good administration of the set off. in basic terms about all and multiple i comprehend has a Keltec (maximum in 32acp) and the 380 seems to me to be more suitable strong element. With a pocket holster, the Keltec is a real pocket gun, regardless of if, truth study, i do not look after them. I easily have dealt with yet no longer shot the Diamondback. feels like an exciting idea, yet, small organization and by no skill a oftentimes container pistol. i might want to STRONGLY recommend adversarial to a double stack P11, till you intend of wearing in some variety of belt holster and, if it really is the case, why no longer a Glock 26 or the Springfield equivalent? something you received't have considered that i imagine warrents it would want to be the Walther PPK/ Sig 232. they are all metallic and massive for high quality (380acp) yet are incredible shooters, esp the Sig. at the same time as no longer pocket pistols in conserving with se, I easily have considered them carried as a effect, and with ideal ammo (corbon, buffaloe bore or the like) they are as strong a 380 platform as is to be found. maximum critically, you may easily shoot both, esp that Sig-that is a exhilaration-and develope your skills it really is a few distance more suitable important than high quality. . All that suggested, my next CC piece will be a Sig 938. Is feels/shoots like a shrinky dinked 1911 and that i'm too previous and to obdurate to pass to a distinct gadget now. by technique of the by technique of, I said a sparkling Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380 on the finest gunshow and it looked large, yet around the following, they are going 30% above retail ($650) and thats in basic terms too a lot for me, even for a "genuine" colt.

WHAT EVER YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH.
GO TO GUN SHOPS AND FEEL THE DIFFERENT WEAPONS.
MYSELF I LIKE THE TARUS PT 100 AF S&W. FOR AN AUTOMATIC WEAPON.
I CARRIED A .357 DAN WESSON WITH INTERCHANGABLE BARRELS(2" 4" AND 6")
2 FOR UNDERCOVER, 4 FOR PATROL WORK, 6" FOR PISTOL TEAM.
A SHOT GUN IS NICE. ENDS THE PARTY REAL SOON, SPLATTERS PEOPLE, MAKES A HELL OF A MESS TO CLEAN UP. BUT THEY WILL NOT BE COMMING BACK IN THIS LIFE.
MYSELF I CARRY NO WEAPONS AT HOME ALL IN SAFE. WIFE HAS A WALTHER PPK 9MM PARABELLUM .380. SHE WATCHES T.V. WITH.
YOU WILL KNOW THE WEAPON OF YOU CHOICE WHEN YOU FEEL IT IN YOUR HAND. ALL A MATTER OF PERSONAL PREFERRANCE. YOU CAN FEEL THE FIT FROM NOTCH IN HAND AT BACK OF PISTOL TO THE TRIGGER. THE EXTENSION OF YOUR HAND AROUND THE PISTOL YOU WILL FEEL WHICH ONE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH. SOME PISTOLS ARE MADE BIG SOME SMALL. IF LOOKING TO CARRY CONCEALED, WHERE ARE YOU WANTING TO CARRY. UNDER ARM, IN BELT THIS MAKES A DIFFERENCE ALSO.
ONE OF THE MOST DEADLY WEAPONS IS THE .22 LONG RIFLE PISTOL. HAVE A RUGER MARK II. 15 ROUND CLIP, LIGHT WEIGHT AND A BACK UP CLIP. NOT A KICK AT ALL SMOOTH TARGET SHOOTING PISTOL. I HAVE ANOTHER ONE THAT IS SHOW WITH GOLD ENGRAVING AND PLATING ALL OVER IT.
BEST PISTOL I HAD WAS A TROOPER MARK IV--FRONT AND REAR ADJUSTABLE SIGHTS. SOFT TRIGGER PULL AND NO KICK.

You were at home, no need for a conceal carry permit. I have a .45 cal . Some would say a shot gun is a great home self defense weapon. Nothing gets the attention of a bad guy like racking one into the chamber of a Mossberg 860, tube extender optional..................

Concealed carry is different from home protection as previously stated. You have the right to bear arms in your home as well as technically anywhere as long as it is not concealed. However, if you walk the streets with a visible holstered gun you may have contact by the police. I carry a Glock 27 (.40 caliber, Small frame) when off duty in a leg holster.

S&W 40 cal is what I carry. The best for home defense is a 12 gage pump shotgun with an 18 inch barrel and some rubber nonlethal rounds from http://cheaperthandirt.com

Take a gun safety course first check with your local N.R.A chapter. There are firing ranges that rent firearms
check out a few and see what feels best for you
nothing is worse than spending $400-$800
on a handgun you do not feel comfortable with.
Cheers

You don't have to have a conceal permit to have a gun in your own home, but you do have to have one if you carry in a car..
I agree with pilgrim 12 ga shotgun always does the trick....
If you plan on carrying in a car, a small hand gun will do...

Look into a low profile .45 or 9mm. Beyond that, the gun that is light enought to carry and you can hit with is the perfect gun for you regardless of caliber. :) good luck and sorry about the assholes who broke into your house

You asked about concealed carry, but then cited a situation involving home protection?
Ideally, I would love to have a baby Browning for concealed carry and a pump shotgun for home protection.
If there's bad guys lurking in the shadows around your house, all you have to do is pump your Mossberg once and they'll scatter like roaches.
