no. though they do have an incredible knack for landing on their feet from impossible situations. thus giving the feeling they live longer than they should.

Howdy,
No, cats don't literally have nine lives. However, the story behind the legend is quite interesting. I did a search on "cats nine lives origin" and found some great sites that explained several theories.
According to a post on Phrases.org, "One theory on the origin of this expression is that in ancient times nine was a lucky number because it is the Trinity of Trinities. As cats seem able to escape injury time and time again, this lucky number seemed suited to the cat."
Another, more common theory stems from the belief that witches were thought to have nine lives. A site (link included below) writes that witches were believed to have the ability to transform into cats nine times. After the ninth time, the witch would stay a cat.
Or, maybe, the theory is just an extension of the expression that cats always land on their feet. I have no proof --- I'm just throwing it out there.

No they don't. I myself am going to be a vet. :) I have a cat and know everything that happens to a cat and mostly everything about cats reactions. They are very incredibly good at landing from very high heights they can land on there feet up to 74 feet. 75 feet and they will break all four legs. They in fact have 25 lives thats to my knowledge I am not that sure 100% but I went on a website and read they have 25 lives. 9 lives is a cat can food brand name. I also read about that in a book. :)

No they don't. But the fact that they're so agile and escapes hard easily, for example like managed to survive after falling down from the building, and always land on it's feet, etc make it seems like cats have extra lives.

Do your really believe that? How old are you? Are you sane? nothing has more than one life, even though cats have a special knack for escaping tragedy.

No, it's a stupid folk tale. Like 'step on a crack break your mother's back'.
Cats only have one life. Same as everything else on this planet.
