How old? If it's old enough not to need the mother's milk, I'd suggest taking the cat and a fecal sample to a vet - it sounds like she might have internal parasites that are interfering with her ability to absorb nutrients from her food.

It can be that she is sad, yes. But it sounds to me like intestinal worms or something. My cat was also skinny when we first got him, even though he was always eating all day. It was like the food that entered through his mouth turned into air in his body. The vet found out that he had intestinal worms. She gave him a medicine for that, and to this day, he is kind of fat and healthy!

Probably got worms. Get it wormed. Keep it inside and feed it food that contain higher calories. Kitten food, eggs, condensed milk. Will put the pounds on them pretty quick. However, I have had cats that were always thin especially in the summer time. You can have it fixed, that will put the weight on it too. lol Good luck.

Take her to the vet immediately with a fecal sample...she could just be depressed, but it is better to be safe than sorry. It could be something as simple as worms or a hairball to diabetes or feline leukemia.
