The apple is a symbol of knowledge that is why many people use that reference, but you are right. The correct translation was fruit.

I don't know why it's apple - maybe because it's a common and simple fruit familiar to Western followers.

To my knowledge, there were no apples in the ancient near east, so it was probably a pomegranate. Alright, Eve had a good source of iron!

Still, "Eve peeled back the membrane, sucked out the juice, and spit out the seeds" isn't as catchy as "Eve took a bite."

In older forms of English "apple" was the common term for fruit. It was probably still in wide useage when Tyndale, Wyclyff and King James' scholars translated the bible from Latin and/or Greek to English. In fact, it is still used today. There are "oak apples". hen "apples" etc.

The fruit was the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Ever wondered what it was that pissed off God that people should want to know the difference? Food for thought.

I think "apple" developed from a medieval set of paintings and the fruit with which Europeans were familiar. I learned at a young age that it was a citron.

an exceedingly magnificent question. i in my opinion view this question the main mandatory of all related to god and the bible. in case you won't be able to reconcile what the bible says approximately God's skills and makeup, with the very elemental descriptions of mankind's beginning in Genesis, then you definately might desire to end in basic terms one situation. The advent account grew to become into, at perfect an attempt by skill of early guy, to describe the place we had our initiate. only a fairy tale, properly advised because it would desire to be, it does no longer in the slightest degree reconcile with the attributes of the God of the bible, era. in reality the only way Jehovah's Witnesses could make the story in the slightest degree palatable, to a reasoning strategies, is by skill of making one among those ridiculous assertion that the Almighty author did no longer prefer to be attentive to what grew to become into going to take place. truly. My goodness the conceitedness of puny guy. Is it any ask your self why this faith and others can pass forward from this assertion, to the myriad of alternative interpretations and assumptions with regard to the character of God himself. God might desire to be breathlessly waiting for the Watchtower to tell him greater approximately himself. think of?

Because it was easy to demonize the apple since it was sacred to the Goddesses of several myths. It is now believed the fruit may have been a pomegranet which was sacred to the Kore/Persephone myth as the fruit seeds she ate to return from the dead.

Because of lazy scholarship. For the same reason they call the tree the tree of knowledge and it is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (ie man chooses his own subjectivism vs God's objectivism as the arbiter of good and evil).

People do not study. As a result the poor old occultists have a fizzy fit thinking God did not want man to have knowledge but totally forget both God and Jesus declare knowledge to be good and desirable!

HOSEA 4
6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

LUKE 11
52 “Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered.”

PLEASE NOTE THE KEY MISSING IS THE KEY "OF" NOT THE KEY "TO" HENCE NO NEED TO BECOME AN OCCULTIST AS IT IS NOT HIDDEN; IT'S HERE FOR ALL TO HAVE.

Who knows? Apple seems to be the universal fruit. And it's easier to spell than kumquat.
