A gent on here going by the name of Thermoguy performs thermography of buildings (and other things); look at his site, you will be very surprised. A tree can do a lot more than white paint ... you can literally see in one of the photos a tree "eating sunlight" (for lack of a better description) and the vast amount of energy in and around the structure behind it.
Drat, I deleted the email with his link, here is his profile with email enabled, I'm sure he would answer your question very well.

How bout a roof that can change from black to white.
I need the black in winter to absorb the suns heat and in summer I need to reflect it so white would be good.
I tried this idea this past summer on my shed using a large white tarp and it worked pretty good, now fall has fell the tarp is packed away and the sun warms the black roof and helps heat the place.

white is ok
but would you want to in a cold country ?
then you would want to attract the heat
In hot places like Mexico white that reflects helps in having a cool house ,so it is a good thing
But it does not have much to do with energy apart from less air conditioning maybe ,
a bit more such as sensible design has to be included

well yes it would reflect the sun light, but it would reflect it into our atmosphere, the ozone layer, it would not let it go into space but come right back to earth. So it would not cool the earth in anyway. but it would save energy in the summer when you want your house to stay cool. and i believe that the color of the wall if it is white cuts 70 percent of the heat in your house. :-)

It wouldn't save energy cuz the sun just bounces off. it doesnt change anything. But solar panels on our roofs do.

well i don't know how it would save energy but yes it'd reflect light. but normal people these days are more concerned with looks and judgments of others to make houses look like that

more reflection means more ultimate warming due to ever increasing greenhouse effect.

it's anti-global warming, perfect. black absorbs, keeps energy on earth, white relfects! good idea ill keep that in mind.
