Orthodox Jewish women are very modest even today. They wear skirts below their knees, sleeves below their elbows, and married women cover their hair.

Women who lived in what is now Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, etc. did not dress as they do now until relatively recently. Too bad we can't upload images here, because there are paintings showing traditional dress. Think skirts or Turkish Trousers (ala I dream of Jeanie, but NOT sheer), very billowy, with long tunics and headscarves (not hajib) that lcovered just the hair - and let the face show. [BTW, pants were invented in China as women's clothing about 800 BCE. The idea was to cut down on rapes.]
In Biblical times, veils were not usually worn. Notice Rebecca didn't put hers on until she actually saw Isaac coming toward her caravan - and several men were present in the caravan. There is no evidence veils were worn for every day - no archaeological carving or mosaic shows that. Apparently at that time they were just for "special" occasions. Certainly during the Hellenistic period we have numerous examples of paintings, frescoes, pottery, etc., and they women were not "all covered up." Neither were they dressed immodestly (near eastern women, I mean. We know that greek women exercised naked and had much more, ummm, cosmopolitan styles of clothes).
The long sleeve outfits you can find on webpages for shopping in India are a lot closer to the modern ideal dress of Near Eastern Women prior to Islam. (Islam was only invented in the 7th century CE.)
My favorite shop is e-Shakti.com.

Well some did and some did not,
Some dressed in the modest, but non restrictive fashion of the Jews. Fringed dress, a blue thread woven through the hem, modest jewelery, and a fine spirit!
Others constantly crossed their God with ostentatious displays of wealth through jewelery and extensive hair braiding...YES ....it cost a fortune back then also.
Some very modest women kept covered entirely, either because of their own modesty or that of their husbands.
But in general it was personal preference, religious sincerity, or local weather conditions, also,Vanity, that decided a Jewish Woman's dress.
Do they still dress like that????? Good question, some do cover as much as possible, some do not. It is spiritual devotion to the Scriptures as the Jewish remnant of Israel see the scriptures.
I am a Christian, So If I am way out of line, please Israelite descendants,Jewish friends correct me please.

Yes they did.
Nowadays, orthodox Jewish women make sure their elbows, knees, legs, and collar bones are covered. Those who are married cover their hair with a wig, a hat, a scarf, or a combination of two of the above.
Muslim women cover their heads AND necks with a scarf (we do not) and some of them wear pants (we do not).
So nowadays orthodox Jewish women do not look like Muslim women, although they dress modestly.

many women did, but some did not covered as much. they were required to wear a shawl over their heads when they went into the temple and or prayed, for sure. many women wore shawls over their heads at all times as a sign of reverence. it is believed that both jews and muslims descended from abraham, either issac was father of the jews and ishmahal, the father of the arabs (who eventually because muslims), or jacob (isreal) was the father of the jews and esau, the father of the arabs. so it was quite natural that their cultures were -somewhat- similar. nowadays, jewish families decide if they will strictly abide the jewish laws, or if they will be more lenient.

Yes the they did dress like Islamic women, so did the early Christian women. The way Muslims dress is the way mankind is suppose to dress, but as time went on clothing got shorter and tighter in order to show male and females private body parts and Muslims keep things the same as God intended them to be. We do not change just because time changes. We resemble the righteous and pious people. Ask your self how did Jesus dress and his mother Mary? (Peace be upon them both) Just like Muslims, why? because they were Muslims. Muslim just means a person who submits to Gods laws and commandments.

Christianity is a vital based faith, no longer a rule based faith. The ethics and habit of Christians is guided by skill of two principals: Love the lord with all your coronary heart, strategies, soul, and potential. And: Love thy neighbor as thy self. The bible is crammed with many rules, a number of which relatively contradict one yet another. consequently, many christians (liberals) use the above principals to choose no be counted if particular rules are nonetheless relevelant or no longer. greater conservative christians attempt to obey each and every of the guidelines, in spite of in the event that they conflict one yet another. although, the Bible does says that ladies anybody is meant to hide their hair, a minimum of while praying. Having women human beings's hair coated is a Christian custom relationship back 2,000 years. it truly is why nuns hide their hair even immediately. although, it has fallen out of prefer in recent situations. for people who say it truly is a "interior reach" situation, seem at a million Corinthians 17-26, the subsequent passage. it relatively is with regard to the establisment of Communion, a significant sacrement shared by skill of all Christians. If women human beings protecting their hair is a "interior reach" situation than so is Communion. do no longer hassle to bypass the bread or share the wine. Communion grew to become into in basic terms for the congregation Paul grew to become into addressin thousands of years in the past, no longer you. Technically, conservative, bible believing women human beings might desire to hide their hair, a minimum of in the event that they're praying. in spite of everything, they like to obey each and every of the guidelines in the bible. greater liberal christians probably does no longer. they have an inclination to interpret the bible, by way of a favourite eye. they do no longer in basic terms do each and everything the bible says.

The short answer is no, they did not and do not. However, some religious Jewish women did (and still do) cover their hair when out in public.
