What's been going on? I wanted to know what "everything" was. What's the thumbs down for, I'm here to help too. I noticed that only one other person mentioned treating all family members in the house, perhaps you're the only two, if so, it probably wouldn't hurt to treat yourself, mom. When I was a kid, my sister got lice, my parents, me, and my brother all treated our hair anyway, my mom got one out of my hair. My parents washed all linens in every bedroom, cleaned the carpets and actually bought new brushes, everything was cleaned throughout the house, and lice didn't come back. It's a time consuming task, but of course it's worth it.
Any how, I do know that lice can keep coming back, if it's like the others, said here, maybe someone at school, or where ever she goes still has it. Report it, so they can find who she's catching it from. Good luck, hope you found good advice here.

Let's clear some stuff up here shall we?
Shaving your head is an overwhelmingly drastic solution and totally unnecessary.
Remedies such as gasoline and kerosene are not only extremely flammable they are also highly toxic. Your scalp is extremely permeable and absorbs up to 60% of anything you place on it. It must be remembered that it is not actually the gasoline that ignites but the fumes, so an open flame in any part of the room or immediate vicinity could mean everything exposed to the fumes will be engulfed in flame. Please do not use Kerosene lest you feel like a quick trip to the ER.
Adults and nymphs are only able to survive for 2-3 days off the host in optimal conditions.
Under normal circumstances however this is more likely to be measured in hours rather than days as the adult louse is highly susceptible to dehydration and will quickly starve.
Wash pillowcases and sheets as a precaution, but a nit that falls out attached to a hair needs the warmth of the scalp to hatch. Without this, it will simply die. The chances of it finding its way back to that scalp are zero.
With this in mind it is fairly obvious that compulsive cleaning is totally unnecessary.
It is more important to make sure there is no live lice on the head than there is on the floor or furnishings.
Malathion (or Maldison as it is know in NZ and Australia): Is a highly toxic derivative of nerve gas which works by disrupting the chemical reactions in the lice's (and our) nervous system.
As for chemical veterinarian products. Any chemical that kills pests is a pesticide, and all pesticides have the potential to cause serious side effects. Flea shampoo is even worse for you because it is not intended for human use.
No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as 'safe' as every insecticide is a poison. Every pesticide preparation has the potential to do serious damage depending on the individual.
If a lice treatment does not work once it is not going to work twice, in fact the lice that live will breed into a whole new batch that are resistant to that chemical.
The bagging of items such as toys and personal belongings is also a good idea, but there is absolutely no need to do this for weeks at a time. 48 hours is absolutely ample as the louse will be a shriveled skeleton without food or more importantly – hydration.
Using pesticide bombs also unnecessarily expose your family to dangerous chemicals. Eggs can survive away from the host for up to 7 days but will not hatch without the warmth of a human host. With this in mind it is fairly obvious that compulsive cleaning is also unnecessary.
For proper, researched advice please read the following articles. Good luck, we've been there.

I had the same problem with my daughter a couple years ago. The best thing we found was to bomb the house. The brand Bengel flea bombs also kill lice. We washed everything and then bombed our house. That seemed to finally get rid of them. I was also told if your child has long hair keep it pulled up and put hairspray on it. The hairspray smothers the lice. Another thing to remember is the seats of your car. That is something that is usually overlooked. Use the lice spray in your car. Dont feel bad its not something your doing and dont just think that if you keep her cleaner she wont get them. My daughters school nurse said they love clean hair. Another thing a lady told my mom was mayonnaise. You cover their head and all hair in mayonnaise and put a plastic cap on for about half an hour. Never tried it but many people swear by it.

Get a metal toothed lice comb (the plastic ones are rubbish) and comb, comb, comb. Every single day. Her, you, and all the rest of the family. Wash the comb thoroughly between people, of course!
You don't need the frantic housecleaning, lice die quickly once off a head, just change the pillowcase frequently. And if she has long hair, tie it up for school both to try to stop her getting reinfected and to make sure that she doesn't infect anyone else.

Try mayo. I know it sounds crazy, but my daughter had them and I used mayo on her hair and the lice fell out and afterward I went through her hair with one of the combs and got the rest out. I then retreated it every other day for about a month. After using the mayo make sure to wash it really good with regular shampoo. Make sure you treat everything in your house that lice could live on. Lice can only live 24 hours out of the hair. Good Luck and I hope you get it taken care of.

Hello, One thing to understand about Head lice is that It Does Not live in the house It only lives on people, The reason is that they feed off of blood and with out blood they will starve to death. Don't kill your self cleaning vacuuming and wash clothing. To get rid of this pesky parasite you will have to treat your daughter and the family she could be coming in contact with someone who has it.

Yes I think thats horrible If you treat your 6 year olds hair properly then there would be no reason for her to get lice You can get a 15 minute lice treatment use that and comb through your kids hair with a nit comb and wash their bedding I had super thick hair as a baby,if you wash and condition it regularly it should be easy enough to comb, use a soft baby brush not a comb it will be easier Use baby shampoo with tangle free stuff and it will be easier I think that is so horrible , i know someone that did this to their kids just cause she didn't want to treat her kids, it was pretty awful. her hair won't come back the same, it won't be as soft and baby like just comb through her hair with a nit comb and conditioner I know she won't know the difference but you will

Poor you! Been there done that. The stuff they sell in the stores is becoming lice resistant. Ask her school nurse if the local health dept. gave them a product, if so ask for it. If not call your local health dept. and get it. It is non-toxic and works better. Also, go to the store, buy the furniture spray, spray daily. Tightly bag any toys/ stuffed animals or get rid of them. Wash sheets in hot water with bleach DAILY for at least a week. And plan to spend as long as it takes to sit and pick out anything you see...for at least a week..DAILY.
