I just bought a pair of 5lbs ankle weights, and I was wondering, is it safe to go out jogging while wearing them?

Don't jog and wear them, it is very hard on the knee joints. Every time you pick your foot of the ground, you have the weight of your lower leg pulling the knee joint open, when it touches ground it is forced closed by your weight. Adding weight to your ankle can over extend the knee joint and cause damage. Ankle weights are made to exercise the legs and build muscle, their not for jogging.

5lb is a lot of weight to add. You need to go gently to start with as your heart needs time to adjust to the extra weight. The body will adjust to the extra weight and obviously when you take them off you will move alot more lightly. But gently does it until your body adjusts, this may take a few weeks. Take Care

It would be better to wear training runners for practice and then wear racing shoes for your races. It would be a lot better for your body. Those weights could really injure you if you ran with them. Just use them for seated leg raises
