They didn't figure it out from the Bible, if that's what you are thinking.
And we didn't "discover" the equator etc. You can't SEE the equator etc. It is used for navigation. It was created on maps to facilitate navigators.

Um. they were not discovered. They are not really there. It's used as a measurement for convenience.
