My orto dontist told me I have to wear rubber bands to school! They are almost as bad as headgear! My friend told me they move just as fast if you wear them hlf the day and double them up, but I may have my braces on longer! So I can either... 1. Wear them to school, live with the insults, and get them off in 4 weeks.. or.... 2. DO NOT deal with the insults, continue being cool, and get my braces off in 6 weeks.
Answer as if you were a 13 year old girl in the middle of the school year with a ton of friends! WHAT TO DO!

Oh yes. The infamous rubber bands... honestly you should wear them all the time to fix the problem. I know it's embarrassing, but once you get your braces off, it'll be totally worth it. But if that makes you feel wayyy too embarrassed, just always always ALWAYS wear them while you sleep. That way, you can wear them for 7-10 hours (or however long you sleep) and no one will even see you.

Rubber bands are not near as bad as a head-gear. It's usually just two rubber bands- one on each side of your mouth and they really aren't visable unless you open your mouth as wide as you can. Don't listen to your friend about wearing them half the day and doubling them up- that is not true and will not work. The rubber bands just help keep your bite in line. Wear them how the orthodontist told you to or you will have braces for much longer.
I actually am wearing rubber bands right now because I went through my 3rd jaw surgery about 2 weeks ago (had TMJ/popping of jaw) and had to have my teeth wired shut for 2 weeks so now the rubber bands are attached to my arch bars (they are like braces on your gums, can't really see them unless I smile really big) to help my jaw keep lined up correctly- I'll have these on for another 8 weeks and then have to go under anesthesia again to get the arch bars taken off. So trust me, it's worth it to just wear the rubber bands how you are supposed to.

Rubber bands are no big deal and whoever insults you is just a loser trying to act cool. Do what your ortho says, it'll help a lot. And they're not as bad as head gear, believe me, I had the choice of a year treatment before my braces or head gear, I took the year treatment.
Rubber bands don't hurt after you get used to them either.

The bands aren't that big of a deal...I would just wear them like I was supposed to. That way, things go as planned, and you get your braces off quicker.
I can't imagine that your friends will rag on you that much about them. If nothing else, you won't have them for that long. I have a lot of friends that have had to have them for much longer than a month.

ok well i AM a 13 year old, and trust me the rubber bands aren't near as bad as you're making them out to be, ive been trhough it all. so many people have stuff like this now to fix their teeth that no one cares, and no one is going to insult you. and dont double them and wear them half the day, you're friend has no idea what they're talking about, just wear it like the ortho recommends. just wear the bands, get your braces off. its worth it. again i promise, there wont be any insults..

I had to wear rubber bands too. just wear them to school. just keep you mouth shut most of the time. For me I just wore them all day but I took them off for things like pictures, dances etc.

im 14 & have to wear rubber bands, and one side is supposed to be placed on different brackets then the other sides. jjust get over it, its not embarrising. my friend diddnt wear her rubberbands and she had to get these huge springs in the front, was not appealing. so just wear them. and if the people at your school make fun of you about rubber bands, i think they need therapy. no offense. there not bad, and youll get them off faster !

I wore rubber bands and no one made fun of me because a lot of people had to wear them too!

Do what your Ortho says.. I didn't wear my bands because I was an idiot and I had to have my braces on for an extra 4 months.

whaaaat is wrong with your school?
alrighty, so, many many kiddos at my school have braces. i had to wear rubber bands, as well as all of my friends.
why the heck would somebody make fun of them? no body at my school made fun of any of ours....don't worry! their rubber bands for cryin out loud..what kind of insult could someone make up??
