I personally would never buy a ring that is not solid gold. Especially if you want something that will last for a long time. The coating of gold that's on the outside will eventually crack and peel off. I would rather have a smaller diamond, but mounted on a solid gold band. The quality of the band is important. Solid gold will last a lifetime.

The main stone is quite large but the setting sounds like it will hold onto it well. Personally i prefer six prongs on the tiffany setting for a little added security but four do the job.
White gold is usualy off white naturally and the rhodium plating is added to increase the strength and make it more shiny and resitant to scratching. The stirling silver core makes the ring less likely to misshape when bumped or if it gets caught on anything. Because the rhodium is electrically fused with the white gold to the stirling silver core it is highly unlikely that it will peel. If your wife does not wear white gold very often though it might be an idea to get a white gold dress ring for another finger before your purchase as some people are sensitive to the rhodium plating and you don't want her to be unable to wear the ring due to alergy or itching.
If money is a problem consider buying the set and using the single band as the wedding ring during the ceremony. You know they fit together on her finger and it can be an extra buzz for your future wife to have to wait for the second ring.
In short if you both like the rings and there are no other problems go for it.

Dont buy a plated ring. It is something you want her to wear for the rest of her life. Depending on her skin make up, a rhodium plated ring will soon wear off.
I would prefer a half carat quality diamond set in solid white gold.
By the description I am thinking you are buying off ebay or similar. No quality 4 carat diamond would be set in silver and plated with rhodium. So think about it first. It is most probably a chinese fake.

It doesn't matter if we like it or not, it's your wife's oppinion that matters. I don't know if the ring will hold up because I don't know anything about rings, but as long as the diamonds are set in place good and the gold is strong then there shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry but it sounds tacky to me. Anyone who can afford four carats of quality diamond would not be asking if it is ok on here!
I don't understand why people use composite metals with diamonds - i mean a diamond is a pure element so why not have a pure band to go with it? White gold isn't a pure metal. Either yellow gold or platinum for me (and it is platinum).

That's a big stone- if it's not of good quality, it will really be obvious. Research the quality of the stone. I would rather have a smaller stone, set in gold or platinum, than a giant stone that isn't- but, it's not my ring, so it doesn't matter what I think!

I would say that the only person who should care whether or not the ring is a good one...is your wife. Her opinon matters the most. Besides...would she love you less if you got a different ring because that's what you could afford? I would think not.
To me...I think that it sounds wonderful.

What about clarity and color of the diamond? Those are also important factors in determining whether the diamond is a good choice. Not just the size of the diamond.

Sounds nice. Do you know the clarity and color of the diamonds? Those are also important aspects to consider when purchasing a ring.

The gender thing is off-putting!
No, not a good ring. Go for at least 10k gold, not plated.
Personally I don't like the channel style....
