Why do people keep trying to tell other people that there is no such things as a toy breed, or teacup ect? Do you people yet realize ITS A SIZE!? Duh, go get a breed book for everyone elses sake and stop trying to tell people that they're irresponsible, ignorant or any other such wording that only serves to down on people who really have better things to do than be insulted. A toy size of a breed may be a runt in some litters but in other...thats the purpose of breeding them! To keep getting toy sizes from toy sized dogs. Sheesh imagine that.

You are correct, I don't believe Yorkshire Terriers have teacup written into their standard as a size, but they are commonly refered to as teacups especially when bred for that purpose.

Yo! Are you people blind? Where did I EVER say that teacup was an official size? I didn't, I said that people use it to refer to a dogs size, I did not however say that it was an official size. Please try to actually read the question before you have the gonads to respond. Thank you. And for all of you who are trying to tell me that toys ect are not an official size for any breed. Go get yourself book and stop preaching, unless you hadn't noticed I asked people not to call me or anyone else names. Now I am also asking people to STOP preaching. Give me your honest opinion without name calling. Pretend for a second that at least half of you, are actually adults. Thank you.

p.s. no one in this question/answer has so far tried to prove that there is no standard of "toy" but in many other questions someone has asked about things reguarding a real "toy" breed and people yell at them that there is no such thing. I would also like to enquire, what is a mini poodle then, if not a mini size of the breed. And no mini is not the same size as toy. Thank you http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/miniaturepoodle.htm , http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/toypoodle.htm

"TOY" is a breed standard, but teacup is not and is just a word the breeder uses to describe how small the breeder believes the dog will be. It's a description of size and not a breed.

None of the AKC breeds call for a teacup size. There are minatures in Dachshunds, poodles, Schnauzers, etc. No teacup! The only ones who use the term such as a teacup chihuahua, etc are the unreputable breeders who sell them and the unknowing people who buy them. No repuatble breeder will use the term teaup. Here is my post to the last question on this subject.

There is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua, yorkie, pom, poodle, etc. They are usually unhealthy runts. Not all small chis or other breeds are unhealthy. I have a couple of 3 lb adult chis. At least they were 3 lb before being fixed and are now 3 1/2 lb. I have sold pups that were under 3 lb grown and are perfectly healthy. I do not breed small females but do use small males because it makes the whelping process so much easier for the female. This past year I had a couple of pups born that will probably top out at 2-2 1/4 lb. I have never called any of my pups teacups. I have lost sales because people call inquiring about teacup chihuahuas and I tell them the truth. They refuse to be educated and go elsewhere and probably buy a "teacup puppy" that turns out to be a 10 lb chihuahua. I am honest with people and try to educate them but they want what they want and don't want to listen to the truth. As far as the applehead chihuahua, the AKC standard calls for an apple dome head. It is a standard chihuahua trait.
One of my 3 lb chihuahuas is almost 8 yr old. The other is almost 6. Still healthy. The female is the younger one and she is the sweetest dog you will ever want to meet. She loves everyone and everyone that meets her would love to take her home. She has some imperfect traits such as aslight hump in the back, longer legs, a tail that was so crooked when she was born that she would never be a show dog(we had the tail cropped when she was a tuny pup). No one who sees her sees her imperfections. They see this adorable sweet little dog that just grabs your heart and won't let go. I have never seen a 1 lb adult chihuahua or any other kind of dogs, altho there have been pix of some in the news at times that were supposed to be that small.

There is NO teacup, tiny toy, etc..period...The group that Yorkies, Toy poodles, Maltese, Shih Tzus etc belong to IS the Toy Group. It is redundant and shows lack of knowledge for a "breeder" to sell dogs from the TOY Group as tiny toy, teacup, etc, etc.
The only time toy should come before the breed name is when one is talking about a breed such as the Poodle that comes in 3 sizes...Toy, Miniature or Standard.
It is IRRESPONSIBLE to try to breed for a size in a toy breed that is smaller then what the breed standard calls for. It also creates many serious health problems. Toy breeds are already small enough without someone delibrately and irresponsibly trying to breed them even smaller.

If you take your own advice and get a breed book, you will find out exactly why people say there's no such thing as a "teacup" version of an already small or toy breed.

I don't recall anyone on here saying that there's no such thing as a "toy" dog as this really IS a class of dog according to he American Kennel Club.

On the other hand, if you know of any breed of dog that specifically accepts a "mini" or "teacup" or whatever tiny version of their dog according to the breed standards, please specify and cite your source, and prove everyone wrong.

Thanks!
***EDIT*** Haha, silly me. Here are some sources I should cite. These are just a few breeds, as an example, that specifically address "teacup" isues on the official breed websites:

What breed has teacup in their standard?
I have not seen any breed with teacup in their written standard.
Either a dog fits the standard or they are oversized or undersized.

I am not trying to offend you but only the puppy mills, back yard breeders and pet stores use these terms.

Good breeders do not breed dogs below the standard. They breed in the target weight range.
If they get puppies too small they spay or neuter.

These dogs are small enough anyway. They do not need to get any smaller.

The tiny little guys are prone to hypoglycemia and other health problems.

Chihuahua's do not have a teacup in their size. It is irresponsible for people to breed small and sick chis just to make smaller chi's.
