As of now, there is no known cure only treatments for the symptoms. Most treatments are topical lotions or ointments to reduce the itching and subsequent "rough and flaky" skin.

I've also been an eczema sufferer for years and go through cycles of itching, then quieting down and then itching again. During an eczema outbreak, it is pretty hard to stop the itch-scratch-itch cycle.

There is apparently no cure for eczema by conventional methods. Hydrocorts are steroids that can produce other side effects.

Fortunately, I've been benefitting from a whole bunch of natural treatment tips found in a newsletter that I came across. You can check it out here - it's free - http://www.eczematreatmentsecrets.com

Since then, my eczema outbreaks have reduced tremendously.

Unfortunatly there is no cure for Eczema. To keep mine at bay I moisturize after showering. I always use mild soaps and detergents (free and clear). I love Johnsons 24 hour moisturizer, it doesn't have a strong scent and it is quickly absobed no greasy feeling. (The guys I work with use it as well so it's not a girly lotion.)

I also use over the counter cortizone creams for breakouts, if used 2-4 times a day it clears up quickly enough. If your break out is bad enough you can get prescriptions but I've used Elidel and I wasn't impressed. The best prescription has been Kenelog mixed with lubriderm, it works great for me and my son.

Stress can also enflame eczema. (at least it does for me.)
