We start celebrating the 1st of October by decorating the house. Lots of Fall leaves, ghosts, raffeta witches on brooms(no green ugly faces for me!), I have three I hook up onto my ceiling fan with fishing line, so they look like they are flying! Its really cute. We call them the Sanderson sisters (Hocus Pocus). My birds tolerate them! LOL
I have this cute sign for out front, Valet Broom parking! There are four or five brooms parked under it!
We watch alot of Halloween Movies and shows. cute ones, not blood and guts stuff. Like Twitches and Halloween Town and Casper and Ghostbusters. (I have a 12 year old son remember)
I sew altar clothes, and gather decorations and prepare the food along with the rest of my coven and family. We gather altar decorations and of course the grandkids must obtain their costumes!
I usually do Samhain twice! Once with family and once with coven and students. So on October 31st I will first have a quick small dumb supper with my husband and son, then I will trick or treat with my grandchildren. Something we all look forward too each year.
Then I will do ritual (my husband has to work) in which we (son, if he wants to take part, and I) celebrate the coming new year. The altar will be decorated with pictures of our deceased loved ones who we will honor that night.
Later I when I am alone, I will read the runes and make some plans for the coming year.
Then next night, November 1st, I will do ritual with my coven. Again we will honor our deceased loved ones in ritual. We will at this time review the old year and anticipate the new year. We will have another dinner afterwards during which we will discuss the Sabbat for educational purposes.
We do this on Nov. 1, so they can take their children out trick or treating on Halloween. No parent wants to make their child miss that and we take that into consideration.
I love Samhain...its my favorite of all the Sabbats.
Blessings,
Aviana

Well, my Mother in Law (and she was a goodie, not a baddie) died earlier this month and I plan to use Samhain this year to honor her (and since I'll be alone, I'll be celebrating on the day itself). Usually though, I go out into nature and do a small ritual and read a book/story that seems appropriate to the Sabbat. It was especially nice when I lived in an area where I could see the seasons changing but here in the Everglades I'm limited to a wet/extremely buggy season and a dry/somewhat buggy season :)

What the hell is Samhain ? But I'm OK thank you. We pagans are a race apart. All going to some mythical place where we will suffer the agonies of the universe until Andromeda explodes, and Urania descends from the stars in a space ship, at 3 times the speed of light, according to the Heisenberg exclusion principle. Look it up if you have the wit ?

Eh we don't really get into Samhain. We have Winter Nights but it's not a concrete date. Not too much of our stuff is actually. Anyhow, we are going to make family recipes to honor our ancestors and a small blot. Nothing major. Now Yule....yeah Heathens are all about the 12 days of Yule.

I usually just take all of my crystals and cleanse them in blessed energy infused running water and then put them outside to get re-energized by the energy from the night sky.
I also burn white candles to cleanse and purify everything within my home and try and start over on a healthy path in life.....internal nourishment wise (food)..............
I read spiritual awakening books or something positive to feed/nourish my soul also
I meditate
Once in a while I cast a love spell, send reiki healing energy, or something similar
"peace"
