There is no such thing as a teacup chihuahua, yorkie, pom, poodle, etc. They are usually unhealthy runts. Not all small chis or other breeds are unhealthy. I have a couple of 3 lb adult chis. At least they were 3 lb before being fixed and are now 3 1/2 lb. I have sold pups that were under 3 lb grown and are perfectly healthy. I do not breed small females but do use small males because it makes the whelping process so much easier for the female. This past year I had a couple of pups born that will probably top out at 2-2 1/4 lb. I have never called any of my pups teacups. I have lost sales because people call inquiring about teacup chihuahuas and I tell them the truth. They refuse to be educated and go elsewhere and probably buy a "teacup puppy" that turns out to be a 10 lb chihuahua. I am honest with people and try to educate them but they want what they want and don't want to listen to the truth. As far as the applehead chihuahua, the AKC standard calls for an apple dome head. It is a standard chihuahua trait.
One of my 3 lb chihuahuas is almost 8 yr old. The other is almost 6. Still healthy. The female is the younger one and she is the sweetest dog you will ever want to meet. She loves everyone and everyone that meets her would love to take her home. She has some imperfect traits such as aslight hump in the back, longer legs, a tail that was so crooked when she was born that she would never be a show dog(we had the tail cropped when she was a tuny pup). No one who sees her sees her imperfections. They see this adorable sweet little dog that just grabs your heart and won't let go. I have never seen a 1 lb adult chihuahua or any other kind of dogs, altho there have been pix of some in the news at times that were supposed to be that small.

The AKC standard states that a Chihuahua "shall not exceed 6 pounds". It gives no minimum weight although there are usually minimum age requirements and MAY be minimum weight requirement, they are NOT posted on the AKC website.
Poms4life is right in that "teacup" is a term used by disreputable breeders to make their dogs seem special or desirable to try and justify asking a high price for a poorly bred dog. It is a scam.
Chis and Poms are TOY breeds and there are no other catagory that they fit into.
I breed dwarf rabbits. They are Jersey Wooly rabbits. I've been consistantly getting really tiny rabbits popping up in my litters now and then. So does that make them great or special? No. Sure, all but one has just happened to have bodies that I liked but they are not worth more just because of their size. No. Am I gonna start breeding a rabbit that is already a dwarf to get "teacup" rabbits? No. That's dumb and has nothing to do with making my rabbits better quality. Same with dogs.
Find a real polite way to tell your friends that terms like that are a sign that they bought from a dispreputable breeder.
I haven't figured out what "applehead" means. Aren't they all supposed the be that way? When people proudly tell me they have an "applehead" chihuahua I just look at them like I don't know what they're talking about or they are crazy.
"Deer" chihuahua is another term to make chihuahuas with poor conformation seem desirable.

There is no such thing. There are a lot of BYB breeding the runts of their litters to produce smaller and smaller dogs so they can call them tea-cup and charge more. You do not want to get one they have more health problems and if you buy one you are telling these people its ok to breed a dog that is too small and endanger her life. I know little dogs are cute I wanted one too until I started researching different breeds and found out about the so called teacup . If a dog just happens to be small coming from normal size parents that is one thing but please always make sure if possible to see the parents. you can tell a lot about the dog and the breeders by the parents

There is NO SUCH THING as "TEACUP" anything! There is one standard size and that's all. As for Chihuahuas, there are two types; LONG HAIR and SHORT HAIR. The "shape" of their head has nothing to do with their breed. Yorkies and Poms have one standard size and are both long haired. Any dogs that are smaller/larger than the AKC breed standard are RUNTS. They are UNHEALTHY and NO responsible breeder would give it a fancy label to make the pup more appealing - and more expensive!

people who try to sell them as the teacup is out for the money ready for this one just for the heck of it I chaecked one out local to me the mom is 12 pounds and the father is 10 pound at 8 weeks old the smallest pup was 2 1/2 pounds already.
I once say a little tiny poodle when I was growing up tht was 3 years old and I don't think it weighed a pound it could be put in a 20 gal. fish tank with plenty of room to spair. it was the size of a large rat. However teh dog died at 4 and due to the health problems of these runts sold as teacups they often don't live past 5 years old./

Teacup puppies are reproduced from a runts of a litter. They are born unhealthy, and complications can happen as soon as the night you bring it home. They are prone to get sick very fast.
I see people walking around with their tiny puppy shivering, its so sad cuz I know very soon that dog will be in the hospital and since their so small operations are not successful
I wish they stop making "teacup puppies" - They are soo adorable but they won't live long.

All chihuahuas have apple dome shaped heads.
Teacup isn't a breed; it's descriptive of the adult dog's size. Those tiny chi dogs are very hard to take care of. There's one that I babysit sometimes, and she has hypoglycemia. There are people trying to make the chi dog breed standard include dogs heavier than 6 pounds, because it seems the heavier dogs are also healthier.

Pom standard is 3-7 pounds.
There are no teacup puppies. Teacup is a term used by BYB, pet stores and puppy mills.
Some puppies are just really tiny and cannot be bred or shown.
They need to be spayed or neutered.

"Teacup" is term backyard breeders use to make their dogs seem more appealing to buyers. It's not a term used by reputable breeders or a term you will find when looking at breed standards.
"Apple head" refers to the shape of the chihuahua's head, there is also a "deer head". Apple head's tend to be more popular than deer heads.
