Hello Andrew:

Life goals are those which are 20-30 years down the road; graduating HS is a short-term goal.

What do you want to accomplish with your life?

Do you want to make a lasting impression, or do you want to serve humanity? Do you want the world to be a better place for you bing in it, or do you want people to remember you?

You might want to study the lives of some of your heroes. What did they accomplish? why? What did they fail to do? why?

There is a reason why you want to make the service you career.....to preserve democracy, to keep your country free, because someone in your family may have been and that person was a role model for you in some way...

What do you want to do in the Corps? What specialty. My nephew, a former Eagle Scout, went into the Air Force Academy because he wanted to be an astronaut...why the Marines, speak about it. I am not challenging you by questioning you, but helping you to figure out the answer. I don't know, you do.

Do you have a spiritual code that in devoting yourself to your GD and your country you can include in your life's ambition? If you happen to have a Christian code, then remember how noble a duty Jesus said willing to lay one's life on the line for the freedom of others, as you would be doing in the Marines, is.

What about family life? Marriage in the plans, or children....if so, what kind of partner or spouse do you want to be? Why? Who inspired you to be that way, if anybody?

Do you just intend to graduate high school or is vocational school through the Corps an option, if not college?

If you want to be in the Reserves, what else do you want to do as Reserves are week-end and only a few weeks during the year? Why?

I hope some of these questions help. I can't answer them, and if you rely on anyone else to answer them for you, you might want to re-think the Marines, as the key to being a good officer is to be able to think for others while taking orders, not only one or the other.
