Well I know the saying, and I jinxed myself today in traffic with that exact saying.
I did not want to be somewhere at the same time as the ex-husband so on the phone I told some one I wished the traffic would be so bad I was too late for the interchange with the ex...........It was Horrible!
Two weeks ago, while getting off a Cruise Ship after 7 days I laughed with a Stuart and said if only some one would take my luggage so I did not have to wash ALL the dirty stuff.........$200.00 later that Sunday afternoon , from Walmart....I had new undies , bras, socks, shorts, shirts, nighties, and sneakers.
All to replace my "wish I did not have to wash it" luggage.
Be careful what you wish for!!!
So, NO It is not Chinese, I am Irish, Scottish, Italian, Swiss, American....I have known that expression for ever , because MY Mother uses it on me ALL the time.
By the way, Most expressions are universal through out the Human family I have found.
