I think that it should be allowed in my school a girl dyes her hair blue, hot pink etc mostly all of the year and I'm a freshman so it kind of depends on your school. Try dying your hair if they allow you then cool but otherwise I'd say ask and talk to your principal.

It never ceases to amaze me how school administrators - who have much more important issues to deal with - will expend so much energy on something as small and petty as this.

I read an article the other day about some idiotic school down in Texas forcing one of its male students to cut his hair because it's "too long". The photo of the student showed that his hair was barely down to his collar. The student is 18 and a graduating senior. The school has banned him from all school activities, and is insisting he attend classes by himself with a separate teacher. Yeah, as if this isn't wasting enough taxpayer money, the inevitable lawsuit should result in an additional million dollars or so being diverted from the budget due to administrator terminal stupidity...

So long as the student's hair doesn't present a safety or health hazard, why should it matter whether it's long or short, dyed or natural?

I am SO glad I graduated from High School almost 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure if I were a student today, I would have long since been arrested as a terrorist, or a violent threat, hacker, criminal - you name it - just because I didn't "fit in" with my classmates.

If your school does not allow it, then live with your natural color. You can express your own style in other ways. Freedom of expression is not the most important thing in the universe, in a school setting. You are going to school to acquire the skills to be able to go to college, or enter the working world.

If you lived in California, you would be able to dye your hair any color. Four years ago I took my granddaughter to the hairdresser and had a light underlay of copper, pink and purple done. ( Her natural hair color is dark brown. She looked very pretty, and her parents were OK with it, too, because it was subtle.

You want to express yourself? Write stories, paint pictures, play an instrument, sing, sculpt, etc,

there is nothing wrong with freedom of expression, but as a society we have to adhere to certain codes of conduct in different institutions, ie: workplaces, schools, colleges. You may ask why is it neccesary for you to have your hair pink at school or any other colour, and where does it end? tattoos, piercings, shaved heads, the school, would as a general rule have to make the coloured hair thing a general across the board rule that would apply to everyone. It is not personally targeted to one individual.

maximum faculties and paintings places follow that rule that hair dye is positive, as long as its a coloration that ought to happen clearly, which potential no blue, purple, eco-friendly or something exciting. Blonde, black, brunette or purple or various colorings could be positive. having stated that, some faculties are extra lenient. it relatively is going to extra desirable than possibly be of their college guidance manual so which you will study, or you need to attempt checking the colleges website for a duplicate of the guidance manual.

If it's a public school, they can do whatever they want, no matter how much it violates your rights, because technically, you don't have any until you're an adult. It sucks, I know, and you should be allowed to dye your hair whatever color you wish, but don't worry, you'll be out of school soon enough.

When I was in school I had purple hair. A friend had his green. It did nothing to interfere with our education, and we both graduated in the top of our class. Creative expression should be a part of the educational experience. As long as it isn't hurting anyone it shouldn't be excluded

I would agree. My school doesn't allow chains or symbols representing gangs, extreme hair styles or colours, extreme styles of make up, piercings... and that's to name a few rules!

I totally believe that it interferes with freedom of expression and think it's absolutely ridiculous. We're forced to wear uniforms already, I don't understand why we should be able to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the student body.

Edit; People are saying why would you want to dress like that for school, but piercings and hair colours and tattoos are PERMANENT. You're not dressing specifically for school, and school shouldn't inhibit who you are outside of it.

Personally I wouldn't care to see someone with pink or orange hair, but it is not offensive and should be let up to the parents to decide what they allow their kids to do.

I think you are at school to learn, and it would be distracting to the other students to have hair in unnatural colors. You can get washable spray colors at Sally's. Why not just have colorful hair on weekends?
