wear it
see it
feel it
or smell it.

The guy is probably clueless about what to get you and would like some suggestions to keep from severely upsetting you.
You have two choices, one, you can put expensive stuff and watch as he goes broke getting you what you want. Or you can think about what it is you really want, how long you've been together and what you should expect of him, and put down things that you'd really like, wouldn't necessarily buy for yourself that are not too expensive.
If you really want to have the feeling that he went "overboard" put down a bunch of moderately priced items (movies, inexpensive concerts, fun jewlery, simple electronics, etc.) that you really like, that you'd be really happy to get, which makes it easy for him to buy 3 or 4 things from the list, not go broke, and still make you happy.
Also, sincerely appreciate any man who knows better than to buy without asking what you want. It may not be spontaneous or romantic, but it's better than getting a microwave and a garage door opener. ;)

Put things on the list you really want. They don't have to be expensive, but something you really want. Maybe a certain sweater, or earrings, a cd, tickets to a movie, The sky is just the beginning, and only goes down from there.

guys get confused about gifts. They don't want to buy the 'wrong' thing. DON'T put down an engagement ring, or other expensive jewelry. My son asked my for Mother's Day one year and I told him a Drill...yeah a drill so I could fix things around the house (yes the Empress fixes things) and I've loved it. Be creative, maybe a cooking class together?

Father Christmas for a start.
A new BMW.
A luxury home with a heated pool.
A wall size TV.
A room full of smarties.
A stack of cash up to the ceiling.
A pet Chihuahua.
A pet parrot that says "I love you".
A pair of stilleto shoes.
A copy of every major re run series that ran on TV.
A mobile phone that never costs anything to use.
A packet of Tim Tams
No more though because that would be greedy.

First make a list of things you like (sometimes its easier on paper), then go from there. He probably does not know what to buy you, try to lead him in the right direction. As long as its nothing extravagant, it shouldn't be superficial.
Also you could always go with something cute like "a kiss from you is all I need".

i wouldnt think of the biggest and most expensive things for him to get me.. something simple and easy to find.. A new shirt or pants.. or maybe a purse. I wouldnt make it complicated for him.. but on the other hand - it depends on how serious you all are... you can also put on the list "something that you see that you think i may like {or} something that has any meanin behind it.. "

How old are you two? How long have you dated? Does he have a job?
If you are 16 & under, ask for a pretty necklace or the cool sweater you saw at the mall, or new mittens.
If you're 20 +, ask for jewelry, CDs or DVDs, or whatever you want.
YOU can answer this better than we can.

World peace.
Homes for ALL of the homeless.
Good health care for those with no insurance.
And for you, tell him that you would like a charm bracelet with a Christmas charm that both of you can add to as you get older.
