My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 years. Within the past couple months we have been talking a lot about getting engaged and planning the wedding. He has even admitted to looking at engagement rings on his own, (we do it together as well) and have talked about the kinds of things that we might want to do for our wedding. We are planning our date to be June/July ish 2010 so its still 2.5 years away as we want to wait until we are about 23 and I am completed my schooling. We know that we will make it until then because we have already been together for so long, as well as we have spent the past two years 19 hours apart (because i went away for school). Now to the question, how soon do you think he will propose? The topic has been coming up a lot, and I am getting really excited, but I dont know if I am maybe getting my hopes up. What do you think?

Well, the more pressure you put on it the more unromantic it may feel. He obviously has it in mind, so I would say wait and be surprised!

From personal experience, I can tell you to stop worrying about when he'll propose. He'll do it when he's good and ready and pushing him will only make him reconsider whether he really wants to marry such an agressive woman.
I know- I've been driving my bf berserk. Our wedding is supposed to be next August, but there is no ring on my finger yet. Just leave him alone, give him your input when he wants it, and leave it be. Wondering when he will do it takes all the magic out of it.

He'll probably do it when you least expect it. That's what my brother did. The situation with them was similar to yours. Him and his now wife have been together for like 7 years or something. They live together. He just came home from work and she was raking leaves. He told her that the glove box of their new car was stuck and asked if she could try to get it open. She opened it and found the ring! I don't think she was expecting to get proposed to when she was out raking leaves at 4:30 on a Tuesday!
Good luck!! =D

Don't get ahead of yourself. If you're willing to wait two and half years to actually get married, you won't mind waiting a few more months to get engaged! Let it be, the more you think about it or try to find out, the more disappointed you will be when it actually happens.

Don't hold your breath. Just go on with your life in the meantime, and make yourself happy.
