In order for prayer to be effective you first have to pretend (have faith) that it is effective. If you pretend hard enough you can then pretend that the prayer was effective, whether it was or not.

I hope I’m catching on, sometimes I feel rather inept.

um...yes. i believe that's the general idea behind prayer. which is funny, because other cultures who don't necessarily practice prayer believe that the willpower of one's own mind can produce the things that a person who does believe in prayer might pray for. so basically it's the same thing, but people who pray pray to a god, and people who believe in willpower don't, usually. so aren't we all doing the same thing? if only people would realize that!

I think "prayer" is sometimes effective b/c it IS true that willpower can change things and can cure. You're mind effects your body. So praying is very similar to believing that things will change or you will get better... It's probably not a deity that is fulfilling these wishes but people's own minds.

Oh you poor soul! Do you think God is so blind that you can deceive Him with your lack of faith? You are definitely not catching on. You would be better to pray to God telling Him that you lack faith and to help you build up your faith so you can pray with a believing heart. God knows your thoughts, He knows that I am writing this to you. Nothing is hidden from the God of this universe. Better to be honest with God and let Him help you in your weaknesses. You may feel inept, which we all do at times, but God is willing to give you the gift of faith when you ask with a true desire to obtain it and other spiritual blessings. May God richly bless you and may your find your path to faith in truth.

Scientific studies have shown that people who pray to be cured can alleviate a variety of psychosomatic symptoms. Controlled, double-blind studies also conclusively show that intervention prayer (praying for a third party without their knowledge) has no effect, even on psychosomatic symptoms.

I think you have it pretty straight. You must pretend so well that you end up deceiving yourself completely. But hey, have pity on the believers. Our species excels at pretence, and we've invented all sorts of fiction: literature, movies, and so forth. I don't think any other species has done this anywhere close to the extent sapiens has done it. So go easy on them. For they know not what they do.

Praying in Faith affects the Parallel Universe that UnderGirds This Universe.

Change something there and it changes out here!

Faith comes by the word of God, see here:

Rom:10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

But what actually is faith? see here:

Heb:11:1: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Well, yeah, that about covers it. And since God supposedly answers all prayers with a "yes", "no", or "wait" answer, praying to God is like praying to a jug of milk.

forget the bible...praying is communicating and the only way it works is= it has to be realistic, positive and good ,otherwise it will not work.
