4 sets of 8 reps vs. 3 sets of 10-12. Interesting. One of the few posts that actually makes me think.

It depends what you want. If you are trying to get more defined then decrease the weight, increase the number of sets, and increase the number of reps.

For mass you'll want to increases the weight, increase the number of sets, and decrease the number of reps (like 6-8 reps per set).

There are other factors too. Like the amount of rest inbetween sets. For mass you'll want more rest than you would for definition.

If you can't perform well toward the end.....keep at it. Eventually what your doing now will be easy. Muscles respond to stress. Work out hard. Just because you don't perform well at the end of a set doesn't mean that you need to quit. Lower the weight by 5 pounds. Then over a period of time slowly increase it. You'll blast through the workout.

There are no short cuts in exercise.

it would depend on what u are going for

if u want to get more body mass go for more sets with less reps at more weight

for more muscle tone go for more reps with fewer or the same amount of sets at less weight

but, for best results follow the bulgarian system for 6-8 weeks then go and tone with alot of reps at 75% of your max wieght to give your self a break for like a month then go back into some cardio, pushups, pullups ext... for another month, then back into bulgarian

depends what you want.
-8 reps builds bulk
-12 reps builds leaner muscle

are u looking for shape or muscles??

there are two types of exercicing, the sweedish which u should do less numbers and more sets and it will give u a good shape , but u will not grow bigger in form.

the american style more numbers less sets. u will be bigger but once u stop execricing it will be ugly.

it's up to u to choose.
