Sin is outdated. It really doesn't matter if it is considered a "sin".

I don't judge things by whether they appear on a list of rules some old zealots wrote. Instead, I use my brain. There are many good reasons to consider bigotry a bad thing, and none of those reasons have to do with whether a sky daddy will punish you for it.

The real benefit of morality is to allow people to live among each other in relative peace. Humanism holds that anything that benefits humanity is morally good. Bigotry is prejudice towards others based on trivial differences. Such baseless judgements of others really causes division in society for no good reason. That makes it more difficult for everybody. This is the real reason why bigotry is bad.

I think it depends upon how you define bigotry. Most people see this associated with hateful prejudices, as I myself do. And the Bible is filled with verses against anything hateful. But often times it is used as an accusation against someone for instance who teaches what the Bible says about homosexuality or the authority of a husband over his wife or what Jesus said about Him being the only way to salvation (and therefore only Christians are saved)....The Bible would never promote mere tolerance for all things no matter what. It stands very firm for absolute truth....whether that is seen as "bigotry" or not.

Now let's see. Bigotry! Someone who hates another because of the color of his skin or someone because of their religion. Now - is hate a so called "sin" is not "loving thy neighbour" the opposite to bigotry?
Where on earth did you get that question from. It is so obvious that hate, fear, judgement is a so called "sin".
I put brackets around "sin" because I believe "sin" is a negative action or thought that WE do ourselves. We have choses, we can choose to be a bigot, we can choose to be a loving person. Now, to answer your question. Would Jesus call bigotry a sin?

The term you ask about may not appear as words in most English translations of the Bible. The principles are addressed.

Bigotry: "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him." (Acts 10:34-35) "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become evil thinking judges?" (James 2:1-4)

Religion-based bigotry is hostile and discriminatory attitudes, opinions and behavior toward a group or class of people motivated by fear and ignorance, based on and justified by religious teachings.

Bigotry is the treatment of some with less respect than given to others.

This is:

1) A denial of God creating all men (making all men equal)
2) Disobedience of the Golden Rule "Love thy neighbor as thyself...", since this lack of respect is likewise a lack of love.

Thou shalt not bear false witness. (The Ten Commandments)

I think this would cover the bigotry of judging and condemning others.

Suzi, does it have to be in verse to be wrong? Any time a Christian says a homosexual, an atheist, a Catholic, a Muslim or_________. etc. are going to hell, they are guilty of bigotry.

Religion and Spirituality is the most bigoted forum I've seen.

Jesus was a Jew. Romans were bigots.

It is wrong to be mean to others.

A sin? Hhmmm. I do not think anything is a sin.
