okkk why do people make such a big deal when people cut themselves??? i kno they care but they dont have to mention it all the time...my friend aimee cut for attenion n people still made a big deal out of it..i just dont get it...

It is something to worry about, it is self destructive. It does indicate instability and emotional problems.

Statistically speaking, the vast majority of people who cut have been physically and/or sexually abused and just can't bring it up. They aren't able to talk about it and yes, they are dying for attention. It is because of the terrible secrets that they are hiding.
I don't know if this applies to your friend Aimee or not. But no one who is mentally healthy cuts, and for most it is a sign of a much deeper secret.

People make a big deal about ANYTHING that people do to relieve stress that isn't good for you.
When I was a drunk, I swear I said pretty much the same thing. "What's the big deal? A pint of vodka a night isn't THAT much."
Also, bleeding is just... gross. At least drunks don't puke ALL the time.

because it's self destructive and potentially deadly - it IS a big deal. often times the person will revert to this and people remembering and making sure she doesn't keep doing it is becuase they love the person. same with someone who's an alcoholic or drug addict.

Because it is very disturbing behavior and it is very self destructive. Most people who cut themselves need serious attention, possibly medications and definitely therapy.

I use to cut when I was young but told NO ONE! (till I was older) I was ashamed and it was my secret and made me feel good.
