You sure can !! ................ the key is that you have to want it soooo bad that you can almost taste it. You also have to know how precious, wonderfull, intelligent and capable you are and really believe it, cos you really can do or achieve anything you want ............ avoid negative people like the plague and never stop telling yourself how strong and brave you are. Find something that you are really passionate about ie: looking after animals, or getting into something like surfing or tennis ............ and just go for it, throw yourself into hobbies that please you and set you free.

well, that is a really good question. There are types of addictions, drugs for instance, that you probably may need professional help to break, but there are other types of addictions, food, tv, computer, books, anything that you do too much of, that really just take good habits, and a strong will to break. But always remember something. Never just stop doing something. Always replace it with something good. So, if you have an addiction to the computer, instead of just not using the computer, take the time you don't use it, and do something useful with it. Go help and elderly neighbor with something, or walk your dog, and exercise, or even just read a good book. But always make sure you fill that time with something, or you'll never get over it. Hope this helps!

Sure but it depends on if they really WANT to do it. You can't make addict give it up. 12 step programs are helpfull for lots of people but some folks just have to do it themselves. They always talk about "rock bottom" with addicts. I guess you just have to get soooo sick of a habit controlling you that you get pissed off enough to make it happen. Unfortunately, for some people that happens late in there addiction. It's a very sad thing. :(

It would depend on the addiction. If you're referring to narcotics, professional help is required.
Believe it or not, some people are addicted to coffee. They MUST drink lots of it over the course of a day, or they feel deprived.

that's a good question (star).. i think that there are certain addictions like illegal drugs that can be so controlling over someone that they need that extra assistance to help them. then there's other addictions like addictions to food and tv that you can keep yourself accountable to (as long as it's not like a real eating disorder) some addictions like immoral ones like addiction to pornography should also have some help, but from a person you already know. not just a group. with all addictions, the person should always try to get away from it, but shouldn't stop trying after one fall. he or she should just get some extra help and eventually get rid of this habit! neat question though. :)

Yes.
I have.
I won't go into detail, but I'll say that, yes, I have broken addictions without help.
However, I'd recommend you GET help.
The only reason I didn't, is because I didn't have anyone to help me.
But if it's an option, "help" will make things much easier.

did medicine happen before MRI's?
yeah
but no foolin, addiction is very hard to beat, most substitute for something not taboo like religion
it's a brain process that your mind adapts and does not want to revert to the balanced version

I believe so. With strong will power and the desire to change. I am sure it is much harder than it would be with outside help, but anything is possible.

Some people can, some can't. I managed to quit smoking by myself. However, if it was something like crack, I probably would have needed help.

Yes. A twelve step program such as that offered by Narcotics Anonymous can help you, and it is free.
