Yes to both questions. The vegetables will be a little mushy, but will taste OK. If you have time to watch the pot, put the meat and liquid in and cook for 2 to 3 hours. Then add the vegetables, and cook for a total of 8 to 9 hours.

Absolutely you can, 10 hours or so on low, 5 on high. Just don't refrigerate the crock pot and turn it on. Load the ingredients into a room temp crockpot.

What do you want to achieve? good eats or a belly full of mediocrity?. Only you can answer this! I advise start with browned Chuck When converting conventional to slow cooker style cooking use LESS fluids Use large pieces of meat 3 inch pieces for long cooking times Small pieces will fall apart .Salt and pepper liberally prior to browning them off.Trim excess fat ( Not all fat) Brown in smaller batches otherwise they will steam. You want some crust which will give you a nice tasty rich brown color to your finished product .If you want one large piece of meat brown the whole piece well.In a HEAVY skillet or dutch oven (same for small pieces) Saute your aromatics first, adding some tomato paste for the last few minutes till it gets browned add to your slow cooker on top of the browned meat.Your aromatics should be 2 parts onion 1 part carrot 1 part celery cut medium.De glaze your pan/dutch oven scraping up any browned bits. Next seal up seasoned vegetables of your choice cut large in a foil packet sealed tightly lay the sealed package in the center of the cooker away from the hot edges on top of the meat and aromatics Add cooking liquid (non oakey wine, stock or a blend with water) to< half cover meat.Cook on low till meat is (fork tender) Remove foil packet carefull open (steam) add vegetables back to cooker reserving vegetable juice. If your gravy is thin , reduce on high temp, season to taste . garnish with minced parsley . Good Luck Good Eating. Start meat in the morning add vegetables at noon. You can do the prep the night before and refrigerate My guess is total cook time is is 8-10 hrs on low.

I do it all the time. I add a can of Mexican or Italian stewed tomatoes to mine, and the potatoes quartered, with salt, pepper a pinch of oregano and some water, not a lot becaue the tomatoe can has juice. Low heat all day. Dinners done.

yes it should be thats the way i cook mine....just brown it in a pan before puttin it in the crock pot that will help it cook faster and it also gives you that nice brown sauce to keep your pot roast moist and flavorful. good luck

Yep. Add a bit of water to the bottom, turn on low before you leave. Just don't add your veggies that early.
